I never understood why these were discontinued. Didn't they sell like hotcakes when they were available?

Damn, I love that, I don't think they should have been discontinued.

yeah, they sold like crazy.
i know 3 people in this po-dunk ass town that all own one.
i think one dude actually has two, they were pretty badass for a budget line.
the electronics were really cool in em, and the design was a pretty big stretch for fender to do( even tho its just a mimatch of other modles)

They should do a '51 with the same specs that the CV's have.

fuck yes.

they should do everything with CV quality.

dude, did i mention that THEY HAVE FUCKING SHIELDING PAINT INSIDE. it's INSANE. the pickguard is shielded with copper foil and there's a ground wire screwed to the body. the entire inside is coated with the black/gray paint used for shielding. it seriously blew my fucking mind. i couldn't believe it!

I saw a CV tele on ebay go for $250 with a case. I really don't like Teles and don't want a Fender, but a '51 is shaped nicely enough that if it had this quality I would consider it.

I just scored a '51 off of craigslist on Saturday for $70. Very nice guitar for the price. Seemingly great build quality as well.

came with a stand, a strap, a tuner, a baggy full of picks and a 2nd set of strings, I think it was a pretty decent deal. Especially considering the guy had the neck setup/intonation done at my local shop, clean fretwork and great intonation. Shop charges $160 for a setup.

File and level all frets, shave nut to preferred string size, intonation, bridge height set, electronics cleaned and re-soldered if needed, wiring replaced if necesary, as well as cleaned and polished.

It's pricey but they're a good and very well known shop. So you're paying for the name as well I guess.

don't all squiers have shielding paint inside? I had an affinity p-bass that had it. and robroes squier bullet (the =w= strat) has it.

My mustang bass RI didn't have any shielding of any kind. I was rather surprised by that.
