Broken Wah wah

Post by the isaac eaton »

so i orded this crybaby off ebay a while ago, for only 25 dollars so i figured it would be broken, he said it worked but you know how those people are. anyways i got it today and what a big surprise, it doesnt work right.

The thing cuts down the volume of my signal dramatically, i cant hear anything unless i turn on a distortion pedal with it, and then you can hardly hear it at all, you can hear it working though, i can hear the wah, just not how i should be hearing it.

any suggestions shortscale wizards?

here is some pictures

well, I dunno but that sounds like the same symptoms I've experienced when the battery is dead. how are you powering this?

Are you getting the wah effect, but just very little output?

If so, check the transistors - especially the MPSA13 buffer.

What's up with the tape on the wires leading to the battery outlet?
Perhaps a power problem lies there with shoddy expansions.

I thought about that, but the problem still occurs even when im using a 9v adapter.

Also, thought i would add that it makes my whole signal go down even when its off. its not just when it is turned on.

the battery clip is connected to the 9V jack so if there is something weird going on under the tape it could be effected.

Update!!

took it over to a friend's house, he does all sorts of modding and pedal building. (same man that did my creamy dreamer mod on my russian muff) He is going to get it all working, make it true bypass, replace some of the transistors, make the sweep more wide, Add 2 trim pots inside, one to adjust the sweep, and the other one is going to be to adjust the output volume, so it can also give a boost as well. AND add a purple LED on the top of it.

its basically gonna be the best wah eva.

Probably a little too late & not the cause of the problem.... but...

I had a similar issues, and it was down to some cheapy coloured patch cables that was connected to it... they just didn't lock into the jack sockets somehow.
