Favorite Neck Pickup?

Post by the isaac eaton »

I need some new suggestions for a new neck pickup. I have a p90 in the bridge of my guitar and need something amazing in the neck to go with it, I was thinking about doing another p90 but that would be boring. any suggestions?

I'm a big fan of lipstick single-coils - it's an amazing clean-and-chimey neck PUP tone.

I have this in the neck of my 335:

It isn't very high output, but sounds very clear and smooth. Pretty much a humbucker for people who hate humbuckers.

If you want the flutey distortion sound, I'd check out an Alnico II humbucker. The vintage wound ones don't sound muddy like most modern HBs.

I've also been curious to stick a Charlie Christian in something:

Yeah, a good lipstick would be cool as fuck. Plus the position would compensate for any output difference (usually low output). 8)

SD Phat Cat in the neck = ace.

More sparkle than a P90, drop-in humbucker replacement, plenty of oomph, pushes drive pedals exceptionally well. Think a "hot Strat tone", with throaty mids.

mighty might p-90 all the way, gfs can suck my balls.
or
AVRI jaguar pup, pure, sexy, single coiled goodness.
but considering you have a p-90 in the bridge, i would choose a p-90 in the neck as well.
