i'm hankering after another strat.

Post by Progrockabuse »

i've come to the conclusion that the neck of my strat is by far my favorite and i'm thinking about getting a second strat. i was thinking of trying something with a different flavor to it. maybe something with a maple neck with different pickups than my strat has at the moment. i've been looking at lace sensors a fair bit. any reccomend them?

i've been looking at one of these quite a bit

the hardware looks a bit rancid on that one, but that's just my taste.

strat plusses are really really nice. the hardware isnt so noticable in person, really. its kind of like they picked the lighting just to show off the beadblasted looking finish.

however, why not go for a tele, if you already have a strat? the AMSTD tele necks are really nice.

i like teles, i've played a few and i've always liked that sound. mike knows how much i'd love to steal his baja. i'd quite like a tele with a neck mini humbucker.

There's the Squier SSH (or HSS, I can't remember, although to me HSS always suggests humbucker in the bridge). I think it's a normal tele bridge pickup, either a tele neck or a strat pickup in the middle, and minihumbucker in the neck.

im getting a black guard and one of these i think for my ash tele:

its from gfs, and the only humbucker ive ever seen that is made to replace the tiny stock tele neck pickup. pretty cool, comes in "vintage" flavor too, so not overwound if you like. im not into rails normally but i prefer them to 12 tiny little polepieces (a la seymour duncan) on a single sized hum. and from a distance it wont look like anything really as its quite small and against a black pickguard.

so there. its not a mini hum per se but itd give you a humbucker option on any stock tele.

i wish the tele BP is talking about didnt have the mini pickup. ive often looked at that model at the store but didnt like how it had three different kinds of pickups, looks really weird and wrong. and the only reason to have that middle strat pickup is to get that position 2 strat sound which last i checked i fucking cant stand.

tele > a second strat

edit- i wonder if a standard tele cover would fit over that gfs job, for teh stealth humbucker tonez. if it made contact with the rails, would that fuck up the sound in some way? i know that adding the cover at all will make it somewhat darker.

I loved the way it looked, but it felt a little lighter than I thought a tele should be, and I couldn't get a sound I liked out og it anywhere. It'd be different if it didn't have three fucking pickups that would need replacing to get it sounding right.

I was reall annoyed. I was so looking forward to it.

or you could buy a new pickguard instead of replacing the middle pickup, omitting the need.

that wouldnt fix the lacking heft, however. sometimes i wonder if they make those things out of recycled newsprint or something.

If you're set on another strat Rob I'd try and get hold of a japanese one with a maple board then replace the pups.
I love mine - it's a quality guitar. The 57 RIs look great.

ill sell you my 86 mij squier. it has a fantastic neck imo.

i know i just tried to talk you out of a strat and into a tele, but i thought id throw it out there.

its going on ebay soon anyway as i really need the moneys. i guess i could put it in the SS classifieds first...

if interested, ill post pics etc and give more details. its one of these.

that price is retarded though, and it really looks nicer than that, its like they put a yellow filter on the lens to make the thing look "aged"

that looks well nice william. though i'll bet shipping will be a bit of a bitch. i keep looking at those classic vibe telecasters, just not sure about the colour.

no worries william. if you'd been in the UK, i'd of probably snapped it up.

i've seen the squire HSS tele, that looks promising. though i'd want to mod it and take out the middle pickup.

right on. :)

new pickguard w/out middle pickup and that HSS is very nice. i cant remember what the neck was like on it though... thats kind of the big factor for me with cheaper guitars in general.

I know what you mean, Rob; the 70's Classic has one of the nicest necks of any guitar I've ever played. Not sure if it would be different enough from your CP to warrant it though; you should play some teles, young man...

i think he's talkig about the SSH tele, so a 'bucker in the neck and single in the bridge. '51s are the other way around.
