NEW PICKUPS!! Help me out

Post by chrisplayer7 »

OK so here's the deal..

..My PRS Santana SE has been with me for years but now im wanting something a bit different. The stock pickups are OK but not great. Bit dull. Need new pickups or maybe just a bridge pickup. Just wanting to know what to look out for and what to avoid as i've never bought new pickups before.

I want to attempt to install them myself. What do i need? What do i do? Dont really want to splash out more money for somebody to do it for me.

I may tune guitar down for a bit of heavier stuff so looking for a quite hot and responsive pickup for a rocking tone. Thinking about seymour duncan invaders and gibson dirty fingers.

Anyone have any ideas? Much appritiated
I would recommend the Micro POG to anyone

GFS is the way to go. There's no magic in expensive pickups - just materials put together a certain way. GFS does the same thing at 1/2 to 1/3 the price.

You'll need a soldering iron (30-ish watts) and some solder, plus electrical tape helps. For each humbucker, you solder 2 wires together and tape them off. There are then 2 wires left - one goes to ground (usually the back of the volume pot), the other connects to the switch. The wires are color coded and there are excellent diagrams at www.seymourduncan.com

I have the classic player's 60s in sunburst!!

I love it, had to get pro set up as it came with quite high action. Love the pickups though, good twang.

Peace
