How did 'SuperStrats' first come about?

Those videos are really good - part 3 is worth watching as well.

I dug that he had to hold the strings in the nut when playing open notes - the way he developed those little techniques was interesting. It's inspiring to hear him talk about all the little tweaks and mods he made without the benefit of the internet and a lot of specialty parts. I don't dig his music personally, but he's certainly been a transformative figure for the guitar.

The guy in part 3 said it best - after Eddie, it wasn't enough to play your guitar: you had to fuck with it too!

EVH changed the game, the post-punk and alt rock slant of the Music Press has tried to marginalize him. Like when they had that ridiculous Guitar Heroes list in Rolling Stone and Jack "Zorro on Doughnuts" White and bunch of other lames were head of him.
