Buy it. Cyclones are amazing. Which one is it? A Cyclone I or II?

It's a Cyclone 1 (and yes I'd prefer the 2 to the 1), but it's a moot point at the present time. I am suffering a money SNAFU, courtesy of a cancelled online order for a guitar (I was told after I paid, that the eBay store didn't have the item in question, and I could cancel the order if I wanted to, so I cancelled it). I cancelled it 2 weeks ago, and I STILL HAVEN'T RECEIVED THE REFUND YET!!

I e-mailed the eBay store 2 days ago asking why I have not received my refund yet, and I still haven't received a reply. Grrr!

Yeah, sort of a faded mustard yellow. The finish is pretty dinged up on it. It was at the Music Go Round In Greenfield, WI. But it's not listed on the Music Go Round website yet. And actually in retrospect, the price is $399.

Personally I would go for a duo. Jagmasters have always let me down. The Toronado (early version) is also kickass.

Well, I gave it a listen here at home. It's pretty cool! Kind of stoner rock in vibe. Well, I'd better get going. I have to do some servicing work on my Marshall head (some of the solder joints on the control pots need to be reheated).

the super sonic is plinky when not plugged in. even with 13's on it. but when you plug it in, even with the stock vistatone hb's its thick as hell.

do me a favor and check out the epiphone wilshire. i have some demos of sondz on my youtube page. you can get thick gibbo tones out of it, or dial it back for really shrill clean like a telecaster if you want to. covers alot of bases.

OK, here ya go. Here's my gear:

Left - Gretsch G6120SHLTV Brian Setzer Hot Rod in limed gold (and no I don't play much rockabilly)
Center - Marshall AVT50, 50 watt hybrid (12AX7 pre-amp, solid state power amp) head
Right - Gretsch G1629 Synchromatic Red Sparkle Jet w/fhole (I no longer have this guitar, but I do have a buy back option on it)
Missing - Sonic 2x12 cab with Celestion Vintage 30s (I just bought it last week)

Squier Affinity Telecaster (hey it was cheap, trading in a couple of Vox Amplugs, and using store credit, it only cost me $47)

Mods I'm debating doing at the present time - possibly swapping out the TV Jones Classic in the bridge of my 'Setzer Hot Rod, and putting in a TV Jones Powerton for more crunch, and putting Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounder in the bridge postion of my Tele.

So, I have both humbucker and single coil guitars at this time.

Goals - I DESPERATELY want to get back in another band. Ever since I moved here for my present job 4 1/2 years ago, it's been a frustrating experience finding a band to play in (much less a band that plays heavy or driving rock). I jam with a guy in the Madison, WI area once a month or so. But it's mainly bues based stuff, and I got bluesed out over 20 years ago.

What about something leftfield? $350 could get you a decent vintage Hagstrom II. Has plinky sound like a mustang, but hotter pickups and a really fast/skinny neck. If the eurodrek route appeals there's plenty of nice vintage Framus, Eko etc guitars in 24 3/4 scale like the Hagstrom that could be within your price range.

Personally, I find Cyclones (not the one with jag pickups in sonic blue though) to a garish and ugly, and remind me of all the shit pop-punk bands around at the turn of the millenium.

Good morning. Yeah Hagstroms are cool, as are leftfield guitars in general. I still have a hard time considering 24.75" scale lengths as short scale, since I've played Gibsons, and Gibson style guitars for so long (since the early 80s). I think if I want oddball, I'll buy another Danelectro. I've pretty much made up my mind that I'm looking for something in the 23 to 24 inch scale range. Like the baritone guitars I've played in the past, my reasoning for this, is for a slightly different playing experience from the more typical 24.75 and 25.5 scale length guitars I've played for the past 30 years.

I do agree to an extent on the Cyclones. The Cyclone II looks and sounds kind of cool, but the Cyclone I leaves me feeling kind of "meh." That's probably the reason why I bought my old Toronado in 1999, instead of a Cyclone I. Soundwise - I think people are misconstruing me. I DON'T like plinky sounding guitars. This is the reason why up until 2 years ago, most of my guitars had humbuckers. It wasn't until out of boredom with my sound that I tried out single coils (for the first time in 10 years or so), that I realized that with the right amp settings (in my case, playing it cool with the treble levels on amps), single coils can have some very cool biting tone, without the plink or twang, I can't stand.

But as I mentioned above, a new guitar is moot for me until I get back my refund for the cancelled guitar order. Also, things were thrown into even more of a tailspin moneywise last night by an unwelcome surprise - it looks like my cluster headaches are back. I've been suffering from these headaches (which are more painful than migraines) since 1999. Every time I start a new cycle (bunch) of cluster headaches, it's anybody's guess if my neurologist is going to be able to get them under control in short order. If a one week course of Prednisone (a VERY nasty steroid) stops them, the cost will be very low. If not, I could wind up spending thousands of dollars (even with health insurance) treating these headaches, like I did when I had these headaches this past December. Grrrr!

Wilshires are cool guitars, and yours sounds great. I'm just not sure I want another 24 3/4" scale Gibby (which an Epiphone basically is - even though the Wilshire is unique to Epiphone).

for my money right now, the best 2 guitars at the 300 price point are the squier CV telecaster and the wilshire. build quality on both guitar rivals any guitar out there right now for twice as much. in the telecasters case i would put it right up there with a stock american standard costing 4 times as much.

My opnion on the new duo sonic is kinda blah. its really light, much lighter than the 90's version (basswood) and im guessing that one is lighter than the 60's model (alder)

and im not even a wood snob either, 90% of my guitars are basswood and im totally fine with it. but this new thing they made feels like a toy, compared to my 90's model duo.
