Well both clearly.
Humbuckers are shit, but if you want to sound like arse at least have the balls to cut the shit out of your guitar and stick a full sized(better sounding) humbucker in there. don't be a pussy about your perversions. Don't hide your fetish.

Why the humbucker hate, what don't you like about them ?

If I search on JS.com they clearly tell me not to chop up my guitar to be like kurt... halp... what should I do...

I like the singles but would like to add some more beef + punch... any other way ? pots ? effects ?

1/4 pound jag pups?

single coil still, but with some more tonal girth.

your last line explains what i hate mostly about humbuckers. if you need humbuckers to try and rock harder, then your not rocking hard enough in the first place. unless you play metalz and you want to have that shitty erection tone then singles do the job.

That's what I'm using at the mo.. SJAG 3's... they don't that sound weighty to me... when compared with the stock pups...

I dunno, it's been a while since they were swapped over.

The Classic Player singles seem like a lot higher output than the SDs...

I've been playing Gibsons a lot at work, so i think I'm maybe being converted ... got my eye on a firebird with mini buckers at the mo.

If you want hums get em. But I would check your setup first, yes. If you wanna push you amp more, get a clean boost. I sound very heavy and I don't own hums.

Now that would be great... wonder if it'd fit without re-routing ?

I like humbuckers; they are good for a certain sound. but single coils are way more heavy sounding to me. they have all kinds of crunch and bite and attack that humbuckers really can't replicate at all. humbuckers are more smooth sounding. and if you like to use a lot of effects, single coils work far better because they have way more harmonic content to work with.

It is possible but it seems you have to cut the top out with a craft knife, i dont remember why, i think its because of the depth of the single hums. So it would look like this...

Image

To a certain extent i find it all depends on what FX you use. My Highway One Strat, Jag and Lindert all have singles and i can produce a thick rock tone with a Big Muff & Tubescreamer. Same again with Multi-Effects.
But, if your trying to achieve that classic Gibson humbucker tone it just is'nt going to happen, even with humbuckers (i've tried it). The construction and design of the Jaguar totally contradict that sound. You may have more luck with a HH due to the stop bar tailpiece and TOM.
The closest Fender came to a hot Gibson sound was the Toronado GT.

I use Hot Rails in my Mustangs to cut out noise as much as anything, they seemed an obvious choice as they are common second hand and cheap. The singles in my other guitars are nowhere near as noisy as the Mustang singles i had fitted.
