Imo, the Jazzy bridge/tailpiece do not encourage a snappy sound and on Strats the strings are very close to the body and the trem also employs a sustain block, which i believe changes the sound somewhat significantly. I tried various pickups in my Jazzmasters and the guitar always sounded 'spongey', where as Strats have more attack and seem to punch louder.

It's more about tonal response, I know it's never gonna sound or exactly like a Strat but it's definately sorted out my issues with the stock sound.

After all the time and effort put in, I realised:

- I'd still need to screw the Strat pickup in somehow, as the JM cover won't push down on it enough to hold it tightly.
- The Jazzmaster cover can't be pushed flush against the body or it squashes the Strat pickup cables
- I probably need to shim the neck a little more to get enough clearance, it's still a bit close.

Maybe I'll get a custom scratchy made or something, it's gonna be a massive pain in the arse to do it the way I wanted. I guess I could always put a "blanking plate" on the back of the current scratchy to cover up the big ol' hole and make it slightly more atttractive.

I somehow managed to move the 3-way switch slightly when tightening everything up before my gig at the weekend, and unbeknownst to me, it was making contact with the shielding paint stuff in the route and shorting out. So I didn't even get to use it, grrr.

you will likely need to trim the pickguard and get some longer screws to secure the plate to the body, but it will save you from cutting a custom guard.

i snagged a version from allparts, you will need to make some screw holes unless you can use some double sided tape and make some adapter plates to bolt it to the pick guard.

Seeing as it's for Tele bridge pickups, I won't be able to attach the Strat pickup to it either, so it'll just serve as a cosmetic enhancement.. probably better off getting a scratchy made or doing something else maverick..

Doesn't look toooo bad, defo better than without. I'll have to pickup another set of covers and do a neater one at some point..

It was a total fluke that it fit properly- I screwed the Strat pickup in at a more-or-less random angled last time I worked on it.. but somehow, the cover I did ages ago fit perfectly with it in that position. A few bits of sponge to stop the JM cover squashing the pickup cables, and bandabiiing..

The action is more-or-less bareable now, and the output/height difference between the two pups is very marginal.

Admittedly they're 3 months apart, but I included the neck pickup sound for reference both times and there's not a huge difference in sound. Same amp settings. The Strat pup sounds way nicer in person, sounds kinda weird on the vid, the amp was set a lil' too bright/thin.

I can definitely hear it, it absolutely has that Telecaster spank that you don't get in a Jazzmaster pickup. I likes.
