setting a mustang for 11's

is there anything i should be aware of or adjust bridge-wise on my mustang? i'm gonna up the strings, as i want something a little stiffer for the top strings.

They should be fine. Initially, I strung mine with 11-50. Now I'm using 10-52. Only problem with the heavier bottom E is, it doesn't thread down into the centre of the tuning peg like the other strings do.

Squeeze the end in a pair of long nosed pliers, or go for something like D'addario EXL115s. 11-46 I believe.

I've heard DR Tite fit are really good for shortscales.

thanks for the info. will i have problems with the trem action? as in will i have to adjust the springs to counter the heavier strings. like you to with a strat bridge to make sure it's level.

DR Tite Fit are my favourites, but they're a bit on the expensive side. Nowadays I use GHS Boomers, they're not as good as DR but the price is right.

I don't think so, but to be honest I never use the vibrato.

i've tried a set of those once on my 335. there still on there. sound really thick and rich. i can just about bend the wound g enough for gilmour esq playing.

i use 11s on pretty much everything and i've never had any trouble with mustang vibratos using them. just set it up as normal, the most you'll have to do is tighten the tailpiece posts a little bit depending on what angle the bar sits at (but that's a personal preference thing anyway).

11's and 12's is what i normally use too. just double checking, as i know my strat's trem is a bastard when changing gauges. will re-string in the morning. after a week of mustang ownership, i can conclude that i fucking love it and don't know why i didn't get one sooner. it feels so right and sound amazing.

11's+mustang+fender tube amp= fucking amazing sound!!!!!

Yeah I found they really firm everything up on shortscales, especially Mustangs. The Jaguar is fine with 10s funnily enough.

I use EXL115 11s on my Jaguar and my Telecaster, it's my go-to gauge.

it's actually has a little more bass now too. i can't put it down. really thinking of swapping my strat for another mustang.
