Pedalboard Necessities

I just have a bunch of picks, a bullet shell for a slide (oh fuck yeah) and about 3 other guitars. changing strings is not an option live. so just swap out guitars.

Yeah, my ex-guitarist was a master at breaking strings. He'd bring a back up but every few show would inevitably break the strings on that one too.
I'd fuck with the crowd for the 2 minutes it took him to change string and tune up. It definitely stops momentum, but with a good front man you can keep the energy up until the string is changed.

If you've got your shit in a sensible place, it's easy to change a broken string in a live situation, especially with hardtail. I've broken four E bass strings live, but never a guitar string.. tis most odd.

when i saw sunset rubdown live their guitarist broke his high e in the first and then second song, he was mega fast as replacing them. the band didn't stop during the first song he just dropped out and was back in the song after like a minute.

he was pissed when it broke the second time though, he just swapped guitars.

Or maybe he changed his strings often? When you play bass a lot, the strings get knackered and eventually break.

i think we did a thread similar to this, but i try to bring these to every rehearsal/show:

- extra strings
- string winder
- guitar tool w/ allen wrenches, string cutter, screw drivers
- extra patch cable
- fuses
- power tube

Sorry to throw a negative in here but im getting fed up with carrying a shit load of gear with me for a 40 minute set, and i've cut things down at that.

-I take two guitars, why? Fuck knows. I've broken one string in at least 5 years of gigging as i can remember and i set my guitars up well so USUALLY nothing goes wrong.
-Gaffa tape. For the drummer of course.
-Spare strings
-Pedal board. Tempted to bin this and use the amp channel footswitch.
-Amp
-Leads
-Allen wrench
-Picks
-Fagz
-Beer Tokens

I bring a metal lunchbox along with me that contains:

- 2 packs of stings
- ball of various loose strings
- allen key set
- utility knife
- multi headed screwdriver
- needle nose plier/wire cutters
- pencil soldering iron (cold heat)
- solder
- 2 El34s
- 1 6V6
- drum key
- electrical tape
- masking tape
- sharpie
- change purse filled with assorted picks
- patch cables
- spare guitar lead
- spare speaker cable
- Air Jordan sweat wristband (for non-contour guitar action)
- shoelaces?

Extra Strings (lots)
string winder
snips
pliers (needle nose and regular)
butane soldering iron
solder
extra leads
tons of picks (never enough)
duct tape
electrical tape
utility knife
tuner
sand paper/green scrubby pads
polish/rag
