Anyone good at routing, London UK

Post by timhulio »

Well the esquire project is all together, but thanks to Eden's dubious quality control the neck and body don't fit together correctly to make what we call a 'guitar'.

As such I need to route the neck pocket about 2-3mm deep so the strings don't rattle along the neck with the bridge cranked-up at it's highest.
Don't have the skillz or tools though, so if anyone can help me out lemme know.

Ha. Yep I've met Ben a couple of times- in fact he's the guy I lent my 69 Jag to so he could trace the routes etc. The only reason I didn't ask him is that he's got my other tele project (the expensive one) to finish the body and attach the neck.

WAsn't it you who had someone fill a tele pickup route and posted photos in a blog about it? I'm fairly sure that was a UK thing and that it looked quite pro.

Indeed, except my luthier friend who did the work is still working on a musima neck a year and a half later, and this esquire isn't important enough to warrant the wait. Nor does it need to be as neat, tbh.

use some sandpaper on a block to sand it down. take your time and keep checking your work. a luthier wouldn't rout such a small correction.

I'll happily do it for you, Tim. If it's just deepening the neck pocket it would only take 5 minutes while you were here.

Ah that's awesome, thanks Ben. You'll have to promise not to laugh at my finishing skills though- I really lack the equipment or patience to get a pro finish at home, and this esquire is really a 'mess about' kinda project made from duplicate parts I'd accumulated for the proper Tele.

Can't on Friday, recording in town. Shall I bring it over when the other tele is ready? No hurry at all with either really. For reference, what's your favourite tipple? :)

Yes, that's fine. And for reference, anything that goes well with a curry...
