Jagmaster question
Okay, so I'm scoping out Jagmasters, cuz i really wants one to fuck wit.
a)how hard would it be for me to just rip the pickups out that come stock, toss in a jazzmaster pup in both routes (or just one, not sure) and simplify it so that I have basically the two pups on at all times with a volume for each pup?
b)will a standard scale tele neck work?
c)will an upgraded strat trem work? or better yet, a different trem all together

a) easy. As far as I know, they all fdeature a swimming pool route, that will accomodate most things. The Vista might not, but the 25.5" scale ones do, and I'd imagine the new 24" ones do too. You might have to make it a little wider, but the scratchplate is big enough that you could easily do this with a chisel and hammer if you had to.
b) dunno. It depends on whether you are getting the 24" or 25.5" one, really. I suspect there migh tbe some disagreement around the shape of the heel too. My jagmaster has a round heel, don't squier teles have a square heel?
c) A replacement strat trem would be easy enough fitted, as would a bigger block to make the exisiting one a bit more tonariffic. You could go mad and put a Floyd in there if you really wanted. Anything else is a bit more difficult, as you have the crazy massive amount of wood missing with a strat trem.

yeah. i was thinking for the bridge maybe a tele bridge with no route for a PUP, if I can find it...but i realize that might not work.BacchusPaul wrote:a) easy. Personally, I think it would make more sense to just block the trem down if you don't want to use it. I can't imagine the difference in sound between a blocked strat bridge and a tele bridge being that much, especially when you consider that even with the tele bridge, there's still going to be a hhuge fucking piece of wood missing. Obviously looks is a different matter entirely, and if you can't get hard over a gutiar with a strat trem, then that's fair enough, but from a sound point of view, I wouldn't worry that much.
Plus, the cost of a tele bridge plus the botheration of installing it would easily get you a bigger, brass block for the existing bridge.

ah, yes good point. and i has no issue with a strat trem. my strat has one. i just remember when hurb was out here, he helped me demo the jagmaster and i had a few concerns that really put me off to buying one:BacchusPaul wrote:Personally, I think it would make more sense to just block the trem down if you don't want to use it. a)the pickguard tort is fucking GROSS. quite gross really. i'm sure i could get a new one though, so that's less a worry.
b)the strat trem they have on there stock won't intonate for balls. fucking terrible. gross.
c)the pups sounded shit stock to my ears. no tone. just noise.
d)neck felt a bit short and wonky for my tastes.
jesus did i like anything about the guitar? lol...the body shape...the finish on the burst was okay...but yeah, i want to do it...so i will do it...but it will likely get modded to fuck.
Interesting.
The bridge on mine intonates fine, but I don't know how ling it stays that way for, as I'm fairly violent with the trem arm.
The pickguard I think is just something you'll have to deal with, given that it's a cheap guitar. I'm sure a replacement one wouldn't be too hard to come by.
The pickups on mine (25.5" Chinese) do sound thrashy and thin, which is why I love them. They aren't typically humbucker, like.
If you didn't like the 24" one, I'd imagine you could pick up a 25.5" one for cheap second hand. They're apparently the least desirabe of the lot, but I love the necks on them. They're pretty shallow and flat. Not Ibanez shallow obviously, but more so than say, the neck on my Squier '51 or even the Jag-stang (it's not as narrow across the fret boar as the Jag-stang, but I think the curve of the back of the neck is a bit shallower).

now i'm feeling like i need to do some work on my jagmaster..
since
a: i hate the trem. hard tale it
b: the tort is blah
c: the sunburst is pretty crappy
d: the stock pups don't have enough twang, and are pretty bland
damnit jimmy why do you have to come up with such good ideas.
i might pull the conversion neck off and put it on my noise master, since i have a jagmaster vista neck on it right now.

yeah, the pickguard would definitely be the least of my concerns. and i'd even be willing to start by replacing the pots and switch to see if that helped the pup tone at all. but i really like the idea of a couple of JM pickups in there for some reason. really, i'm thinking about going hardcore and stripping the finish of the cunt as well.BacchusPaul wrote:Interesting.

The new ones have conversion necks. The body is set up to accept a 25.5" neck.
