Painting? Routing? Set-up tips? Or just straight-up making a guitar from scratch? Post here, and post pics!

best way to tint a neck?

Post by hotrodperlmutter »

i've got this all maple squier bronco bass neck for my bronco/mm project, and i was checking out the neck, and i think it's just too pale for my liking.

anyway to tint an all maple neck without going too orange?

i don't want to use the wrong shit, either.

any help would be awesome.

Reranch has tinted amber lacquer. Furniture refinishers also sell all sorts of shades of aerosol lacquers.

Here's what the outcome looks like. You can control the shade by number of coats. Some people prefer more brown, but old necks vary on smoke, sunlight, and climate. I much prefer it to plain maple.

I thought that was some crazy '80s comp striping going on with the pickguard until I realized it was the ceiling light reflecting in the plastic. I need a lie down.
