New solo project... fibrilla. be the first to hear it....

Post by othomas2 »

... had a busy afternoon and just uploaded a new track.

I already have a myspace for myself as a singer/songwriter but this page will be primarily instrumental project, not sure what to describe it as but have a listen and let me know what you think. Recorded through Garageband.. using a sony stereo mic and intereface... And a Jag of course... straight into my mac. No non sense recording !!!

cheers

Thought it was a bit long, like could maybe be edited down to 3-3.30, but I liked it.

Yeah... totally agree... it drags a little, and I've been wanting to cut bits and add a bit more variation in certain passages.

It happens with most of my tracks I do... I only find this out after I listen to it a lot, but I'm too impatient when it comes to posting new material up. I need to hold myself back.

At the same time though I wanna keep parts memorable rather than one off lines that I'd struggle to achieve again or teach someone else.

Just had a small record company ask me to submit a few of my tracks for a compilation CD which will be released in early winter time... which I'm really chuffed about. Should also be doing some jammin' with a session guitarist who has worked with massive attack amongst others, who I really feel a bond with musically. Finally seems to be coming together, after numerous bands which haven't worked out.

Pleased you like it Gav, I'll probably post up a refreshed version sometime soon.

& don't worry mike, whenever you have a spare min... tis cool.

cheers....

Right at work we are and this is what we're doing.

First impressions, 5:03 is a long song length:
Extremely well recorded and all of the guitar sounds are good enough to eat, really great stuff.
I enjoy your playing aswell, and I would love to hear this with some vocals on. The second section perhaps arrives a little late but it's very cool, before we move back to the first movement.
The dirty guitar is also really well recorded and played and I especially like the rocking out octave chording.
What sounds like some digital clipping when the high guitar enters on the right?

Overall well played and some very good ideas.

Thanks for the feedback... much appreciated.

The clipping noise could well be clipping but I think it's the percussive noise from the pick... It's really apparent when activating the micro pog on the high octave only, which is the effect i used.

Vocals could be nice but the idea was to have this as instrumental only project, plus my vocals aren't that good.

Here's my singer/songwriter page www.myspace.com/owenpeterthomas

Not as well recorded, but the ideas are there... which was my main aim.

I'm re-recording one of the tracks today, so I'll post that up later on hopefully.

Thanks again people !!

Sounds great! The Jag sounds especially beautiful.

That's what it sounded like to my ears -- not clipping. The same pick attack sounds are heard after the Micro POG is turned off, and it may just be exaggerated a bit because of the compression.

This stuff is phenomenal. The guitar/bass sound on "Killjoy" is fucking incredible, and the vocals are a perfect fit. The vocal effects on the other tracks were very creatively done. I really dig the distorted trem-o-voice on "Outro".

Getting back on track, I love the instrumental -- looking forward to more!

Thanks dude... always good to hear what people think.

Killjoy is the only recording I didn't do at home or with my own gear... think it was a Squier strat and cheapish bass, but yeah cheap nastiness suits that track well. Had a terrible cold that day and never really been satisfied with the vocals. It's another one that I need to re-record. Needs drums too !!

Going back to the pick attack, I think I was also using a compressor/sustainer which wouldn't have helped the initial clipping type noise, especially the Boss version in my experience...

cheers
