Adding a strap button to an acoustic...

Post by benecol »

Hello

Now, I'm not usually a great fan of acoustic guitars, since I prefer to hide my fuckwittery behind a wall of effects pedals, but my three year old son has got a uke that he loves. However, he wants a strap, so he can practise his big rock poses in front of the mirror, just like I do. My question is, how do you add a strap button to an acoustic? Is it just a case of pilot drilling a hole, then screwing the button on?

I should stress this is a £15 uke, not some period correct antique of the future.

I added a strap button to an old acoustic I had by doing exactly what you said. I drilled a hole then screwed in a curtain hook. Worked a treat. I screwed it in at the heel of the neck, which on that particular acoustic was easily able to support the strain.

Cheers for that - just ordered a cheap pair of strap buttons. Will do one on the arse of the guitar, might just tie the strap behind the nut, since the uke will be crazily neck heavy. Plus this means I'll have a spare strap button when my daughter is old enough to want hers doing.
