I'm thinking of doing a bass amplifier for my Senior thesis. My question is, does anyone know of any non-square amplifiers? Not necessarily round, but something other than a box. Also, what is the reason that every amp/cab I have ever seen is a box? Do you get the best sound out of this shape? Is it for electronic housing reasons?
The Teisco Checkmate 30 Coffee Table amp. Way underpowered, but the speaker faced up and the white cone distributed the sound all over the room. One of the hippest designs ever, IMO.
I'd say it's so that htey can be stacked into the back of a van handy enough.
Al ot of the speakers we'd see at work are wedge shaped, but there will be chest sized cases for them that might hold anywhere between two to eight speakers, so that when they're packed on to the lorries they're bax shaped.
Do not want amp rolling/driving away/blasting into orbit during wicked solo.
My only complaint of most square amps is that they throw too many colours into the equation, not enough VU meters, label-maker control markings and knobs as big as a teacup, like Doc Brown's amp. Look at what that thing could do.
