I've been hankering after a 62 re-iss strat for ages but never really had the dollars for a US one...
However, a guy has offered me a mij 62 strat for £450, he says it's early 90s... I don't know much about the value of Japanese fenders... does that sound like a good deal?

Yeah, it seems a bit steep even by UK standards mike. I've seen MIJ Strats go for under £350 in shops, never mind private sale. If he thinks its worth more coz its early 90s his thoughts are premature.
I picked up a brand new Highway One (US) model for £360 (w/hardcase) out of the ad-mag, the local papers are usually snided with Strats, especially MIJ models. The good thing about this is Strats vary so much that you need to play before you buy imo.

there was a guy that had an 80's one round these parts (i look frequently as i would kill for one in sunburst), and i offered him $600 and he said NO.
WTF. i even offered to trade him straight up for the peave's and he said no fucking way.
fuck you craigslist guy.
if you have the money, i'd say buy it. i don't see them too often though.

The early 90's MIJ strats are outstanding guitars, and are actually going up in value. I bought a MIJ '62 strat in 1999 for $300 and sold it two years ago for $475 on the bay. Just make sure it is early 90's, get the serial number and check. If it is, then i'd go for it.
