Faulty Danelectro pedal, easy repair ? returns policy ?

Post by othomas2 »

Bought a Dano cool cat drive from ebay, from a small independent stockist. Sounds great !! or at least did !!

It was on clearance and the last one available in stock before finishing the line... so for that reason I didn't feel too bad about buying new... bearing in mind the controversy surrounding the company. I searched high and low for a second hand unit without success.

Switched the pedal on again 30 mins ago after using it on a few occasions throughout the day, and now produces a low level noise with a spluttering type noise... doesn't sound good !! Any experts tell me what may have happened here ?

I found a warranty card in the box with the unit, to activate this it needs be sent off within 10 days of purchase... I still have a few days left. However, this is in US and I'm in UK.... would the pedal need to be shipped abroad for repair also ??? seeing as the pedal is so cheap new, would it be worth it ?

Is the small stockist liable to give me a refund of sorts ??

So yeah, few questions... now I'm doubting Dano products !!

any help would be appreciated.

i would contact the seller and see if they'll refund it. it's a new product (or even a second hand one), they should give you your money back.

edit: don't you work in a music shop? what would their returns policy be if a similar thing occurred?

Yes. What he said. Plus, if you payed through paypal you're protected up the wazoo.

And that's fucking karma for buying new product from a homo-hating company, last one in stock or not.

I do work in a music shop lol... we provide at least years warranty on any faulty products... as standard... there is often an extended warranty which is for the customer to deal with after that time is up.

But I'm not sure how it'd work for an ebay shop... that has no blurb... I've emailed them, so we'll see what happens.

There is also this page:
http://www.danelectro.com/service.html

So I'll email them as someone outside the US, and see what they have to say.

cheers

Well, I opened her up and had fiddle with some wires and it's now back in working order.

On closer inspection there is slightly severed wire, which I've now taped up.

When I've had to take the back off previously and its been closed up again, the wire has become forced between the battery enclosure and the casing where the integral struts are on the right hand side. Where the black tape is !!

I've now removed the battery enclosure and taped the cover on... to avoid this happening again. The other back is from another Dano pedal mike sold to me. So yeh, anyone with Dano pedals should be careful with the positioning of the wires and battery enclosure !!

yeh I know... if it were a dolphin I wouldn't mind.

My thinking was.... although I was stealing another mans purchase at least the shop wouldn't be buying anymore in... so I don't think I'm wholeheartedly wrong... just a bit BI maybe...

All that anti-gay mojo in the pedal must of made it crap out...
But what benecol said, paypal definitely protects you if you payed using that.

I know... I do actually feel a bit bad... & a little miffed now... the ebay shop I bought the pedal from now has 3 available for sale with the words 'JUST ONE TO CLEAR ON THIS DEAL !!!' in the listing... :x False advertising !! If I'd known this I wouldn't have taken the plunge...

I wont need reimbursing now anyways. Since I tightly taped up the wire it's not been an issue... and if it does falter I'll re-solder.

I've also now switched the wiring from the trans overdrive to the cool cat drive now... as I favour that drive and it's on my board, the other isn't. Both still operate as should.

I will be buying more cool cat drives as they appear secondhand.. the drive sounds sublime !!

Dano are redesigned all the circuitries for the cool cat range off their own back, due to the fact they're admittedly direct clones of other pedals. The cool cat range as they are now will be discontinued. Apparently all new & improved versions will be released in the not so distant future !!
