The reason this has caught my attention is because it looks true to the original design... a lot of copies have elongated horns etc...

having said that, never looked into that far.

But, I know what you're saying... it could look the part but not play the part... I'll soon find out...

It turns out our bass player once fancied himself as a guitar player and has a '7x Gordon Smith that was trying to be (I think) a Gibson Melody Maker clone. It looks boring as hell but when you play it it's just bloody magic. I'd still keep the Strat, but...

Definitely. They are bland looking and sometimes appear unfinished, but great players possibly unrivalled at that price.

If it's £200 new you're paying 80% of the new price for a second hand guitar. I'd probably go with something else.

I will go try it at least, seeing as I've made plans to see it.

You're right though James, not as much of a deal as I first thought... but I can still try haggle him down.

I would be surprised if the guitar impresses me enough to warrant buying it but we'll see...

What is it you like about it owen? Is it the gas to try a PRS?
If it is, i had the same thing. The SE range is ideal, they are quality and wont hurt your pocket.

... I've tried a few previously and thought they were nice guitars and a stunning design IMO. A few bands I like used them when i was growing up... I know the range you're talking about but there's something about the carved top version which appeals to me.

I don't think I'm a Gibson guy really... and this is kinda a hybrid of the things I like about fender and Gibson rolled into one. Having said that owning a guitar like this may not stand the test of time, but it has always been on the wish list.

My aim is to have 2 inexpensive gig worthy electrics.... my jag being one and which is suitable for certain stuff, and I'd like something with humbuckers; that should just about cover all basses. I do like a bargain too and enjoy modding and long drawn out setups...

It's either this or drop a single coil sized bucker in the bridge of my classic vibe tele but I'm still not sure about that, hence my posts about a Squier 51 recently.

I also have 61 jazzy which I love to pieces but that doesn't get much play, but that would also add to my recipe of guitar tones.

Going back to the TC Ellis... I've been reading up the site and checking his blog... very small company... only 50 of these were made late last year, which is probably why they've sold out... and very little info or reviews out there. It sounds like he's trying to make a name for himself and doing everything possible to do that. Anyways, I will take the guitar on its own merits as I do with any guitar I demo.

Nightmare...

I have about 10 decent axes... half down in London and the rest with the parents up north. I do feel guilty about that sometimes... not sure why...

yes I think you can gather my fixation with this guitar, 2 nights ago... I had a really vivid dream about a PRS... I bought a model which looked close to the custom 22 & 24 series... somehow In my dream I compromised by purchasing a slightly different model. The lower horn was hinged and opened up, and inside was a compartment which held two smaller guitars... I was gutted !! That morning after I wake up and look up PRS's and find this. So yeh I don not want to make that much of a compromise on this beast...

Well, just back from trying the guitar....

Was nice for the money but I was expecting a bit more...

The detailing wasn't top notch, high action, hard tail was pushing forward, bridge pickup wasn't working... etc etc.

He told me he paid £300+ for it so i decided against buying it.

Think it was a quilted foto laminated top and had cheap sounding pups... I guess it was to be expected.

For the money though I think it's pretty nice... if epiphone were to make a mid range prs I would suspect it'd be a similar standard.

Back to the Jag... :D

i never liked prs - tried one once, which sounded gorgeous but that was more down to the amp at the time (CS Vibro-king = <3 ) - nice finish but i'd rather go for Gibson/Fender as the main guitar..

The knockoffs would be fine I guess, but so much depends on the pickups and final fit/finish of the guitar. Cheap finish is one thing, but if it's unplayable and sounds like an Encore, then it lets the side down... Save the cash and get an SE if you're after one - the hollow bodies look cool..
