SUPER SONIC PRO TIPS:
1 the bridge rusts. mine got wicked rusty just in the 2 years that i owned it. its awesome that way.
2. metal strat covers fit fine. all you gotta do is heat up the inside of it with some FIRE and pinch the sides in a little.
3. i put 5 springs in the back of mine. it pretty much locks it down so you don't have to dick with the supid wammy bar
4. tuners are fucking solid. same tuners that came stock on left handed fender japan jaguars, strats and jazzmasters of the day

The area is really big, i don't know if it wold work, but i'm starting to like it!endsjustifymeans wrote:http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Finishing_s ... ticks.html
this could help with the missing paint areas.
I did meant 3 springs. i have to get a tremolo harm, i want to use it (one of the main reasons i got a second guitar), so i'll keep the 3 strings.BacchusPaul wrote: Do you mean three springs? How many springs you have is a matter of choice, but generally speaking, three springs is common on this type of bridge if you're going to use it as a tremolo. If you don't want to use a the tremolo, it might make sense to get another spring or two and to screw it down so that it won't move anywhere.
As for rust, try WD-40 and a heavy bristled brush (not wire brush, as this will scratch the hardware). For intricate parts try WD-40 and a tooth brush. You will probably be able to get it it a lot cleaner by scrubbing it this way, although depending on how clean you want it, you might have to replace the parts.
I doubt very much that a bit of rust will effect how well the bridge works, so the only thing to worry about is how it looks.
I'll clean it up a bit, my main problem ins't even the rust, but all the shit the last owner left on the bridge! If it won't give me tunning problems, then fuck it.

What I would do is get a b/w/b pickguard and a pair of white or chrome robroe covers like these...

bronco knobs too, you could probably pick up a pair from the Sloan deal (I know it's buy six, but I think you could find a way to buy a couple off someone or perhaps buy some with someone else).
Thanks James! it helped me a lot!
I was thinking about getting a tort guard, and some black pickup covers (also i'm changing the neck pickup with a humbucker sized p90), but your idea seems good has well (really like those chrome covers). I'm definably getting a bridge cover.
Thanks everyone for the help and tips

Any Japanese Strat trem maybe. Vintage specs use imperial measurements, hence there being a slightly discrepancy when compared to metric sized parts. So I wouldn't say that's the "normal" size at all.mcconnachiea wrote:Any normal strat trem is just 6mmsp3k wrote:does anyone know the diameter of the trem arm this guitar uses?
Stop giving advice about things you don't know about.mcconnachiea wrote:Any normal strat trem is just 6mmsp3k wrote:does anyone know the diameter of the trem arm this guitar uses?
If someone asks a question and you aren't qualified to answer it, then leave it alone. You don't need to try to help everyone, because you're doing the opposite and being unhelpful. Leave it alone and someone else who is qualified will answer it. We have a lot of people here who know a lot about different things, and between the whole forum, we can give good advice on more or less anything. This only works because people don't go spouting nonsense when they don't know about a topic. You're just an annoying noise that is stopping the forum from working the way it should.
Pack it in, read stuff, learn stuff, and when you know that you know what you're talking about, offer advice.

I've owned 5 guitars with strat trems and they were all 6mm. I know vintage stuff takes slightly different sizes but we're talking about something made in the late 1990s. I have seen a 1983 and OWNED a 1995 squier strat that both take 6mm trem arms so I naturally assumed it would be the same.
Sorry if I confused anybody though.
And cool pics robroe! I think the strap button on the plate is really cool, never seen it before, I'll be doing it on my JS project

So when you said "any normal" you meant "this specific?"mcconnachiea wrote:Meant that one would be 6mm. When I said normal, I meant recent (as in not vintage) really, I'm shit with words >.<BacchusPaul wrote:If you know that not all strat trem arms are the same size why did you say that they were?

Not really. I'm saying 99% of strat trems made within the last 20 yearsBacchusPaul wrote:So when you said "any normal" you meant "this specific?"mcconnachiea wrote:Meant that one would be 6mm. Then stop giving out bogus advice. You don't have to be involved in every thread in the knowledge forums, especially ones where there are other people who know more than you, such as this one, or the the one in the amps forums. Sit tight and you'll get on fine.
Anyway, this doesn't really belong in the knowledge forums either, so I'll drop it.

Get along with who? Who here actually likes you? You've got an unfortunately delusional view of yourself. The people here are nice and you'll always get a chance if you legitimately prove that you're not going to be a nuisance, but you're just not doing that. The worst bit is, you really think you're a God around here now, you've changed your ways and everybody owes you for it. That's not the case.mcconnachiea wrote:99% is not an actual figure of course. Its just an expression for nearly all. Please, I'm trying to get along with people here now.
Your figure is totally off. Many recent guitars made to vintage specs have different sized trems. As I said, any parts made to "vintage specs" will use imperial measurement (inches) instead of metric (millimetres) which means there is a very slightly size difference. I have a few whammy bars from various Strat style trems, and they actually come in three different sizes, so there's a third size I'm not even sure about (anyone know of any more measurements other than metric and imperial?). It's hard to be sure about the size of the trem arm just by guessing from any country. Unless you know specifically, I would shut up. Really, shut up.
