Are these really worth the money??? I've been considering getting a set as i'm about done constructing my pedal board. After reading 6 pages of reviews on Musicians Friend i've concluded this:
Either people love them or they hate them.
A lot of people have said that they worked wonders and sound crystal clear and work flawlessly, while the other half say the simply don't work, and to save your money.
I would like to keep my board as tidy as possibly idealy, but i don't want to spend the extra money if it will not be worth it.

2 cents???

my other option is a set of planet waves cable kit, but the reviews sound the same

You need to take your time when making them, and if you do they are rock solid. if you are clumsy or lazy you will fuck them up and they will not work.

I would not recommend them for someone who chops and changes their pedalboard a lot though, they are more of a long term investment, i.e. you set them up and leave them in place.

Can't comment on George L's but I was talking to my old guitar teacher the other day about them and he swears by them. He did however point out that an even better cable was made by Analysis (and I expect the cost is more too). His thing was buying the analysis cable and puting the George L's solderless plugs on it. Anyone used analysis? Here's their stuff:

I know there are others on this forum who use them and have had no issues and at least one who has had issues. I'm guessing mileage may vary on this.

I have the solderless version and I think they are great.
So easy to change and get exactly the size of lead you want when changing things around.
In terms of sound I could definitely hear a difference when I changed from cheap patch cables - more clarity and top end.
Like Mike said, you need to make sure they are solid and take your time putting them together.
I have never have a problem with mine.

From my experience they make a huge difference. I use them for pedal board but also the thicker version for amp-instrument cables. Comparison is most probably convincing for most users.
Also, they are very convenient and easy to make so go for it, they are worth the money. Some googling will find you the cheapest prices around the net.

I used it for a guitar cable in my last band for YEARS (6) and still have the same one and never had a problem.

can you buy just the solderless ends? i've got a tweed guitar cable my cat chewed up, and i'd like to make some pedal cables out of this 20ft, currently useless $30 cable.

You could always just buy jacks and do it that way? If you don't have a soldering iron, get one. They are extremely useful. Think of it as getting twenty foot of patch cables for the cost of a soldering iron, plus, a free soldering iron (or something).

Hot Rod, i'm pretty sure you can't connect a george l end onto just any old cable, it has to be a george l. At least that's my understanding
