Fritillaries

I just love these flowers, in a tiny wooded area in the middle of our housing estate and every year, late April, I look to see whether they've made it through again. They seem to be thriving this year.

What an intricate petal. It almost looks like fabric or like it's been turned into a JPG. I can't help but photograph plants. They are endlessly varied.

I've been thinking about getting some checkered lily bulbs ever since the seeds I found on ebay failed to sprout (live and learn with bulbs/seeds). I live in the right climate for them, but have had some real problems with new things I've planted in the newer bed this year. I'd need to pick a special place where I would be able to enjoy them, and where they would successfully grow. Great pics!
