came across this on UK eBay. A 1969 Gibson SG Melody Maker. It's a shortscale! It has a 18.75" scale neck, which were available until 1970 (according to wikipedia).
I have never seen one before, I didn't even know they existed. I like it. It's currently at £460, 22 hours left. only 2 bids... who knows, could get a bargain.
Ah, it seems wikipedia is wrong. They have it down as a 18.56" neck, which would be tiny. After more google searching I found it was a 22.75" scale. Much more managable.
I have a stagg strat that is a 3/4 scale (18.75"). I got if for my children, but I play it. I like to mess around with it on the couch when watching tv with family. I does not take up much space. It sounds nice too (of course I have modded it up). I like it for learning new chords. When I get my fingers trained on the small scale, it makes it easier on the full scale.
That being said, you would look like Tiny Tim playing it in public.

such a weird guitar design. it's double cutaway presumably to give you better fret access but the neck joins at the 15th fret which just takes all the fret access away again.
22.75" is doable. My lil' MusicMaster is 22.5, and it is very comfortable for playing while lounging around. Not a gigging guitar, though - unless you never play in the upper register.
