this is a serious question. so tell me if i am wrong. but i think aen is right: does the world really need "another" tube screamer. another modded DS-1. another Timmy. another overdrive pedal. now granted i am not a "tonefreak" or even a serious guitarist or whatever. & i know pedal design is not easy. & one diode can make a difference. but yeah i just want to be enlightened that is all pliz help me understand...
or if you are going to make an Overdrive pedal can't you make it like do something cool like self-oscillate or something.

what the world doesn't need is another $200 boutqiue tubescreamer derivative with "tone" in the name three times.
I don't know too much about it, but as I understand it there's only so many ways to get a nice overdrive, and most of them have been exhausted. If innovation isn't going to be the driving force in the market, then it'll be price, so Reece is right.

We don't need anymore new boutique companies with $200 tubescreamers, but if a company wants to offer their rendition for cheap I think thats a good thing. But there will always always always be the old fat lawyers who have nothing to do but spend there money on vintage strats and overpriced tubescreamer derivatives. I think danelectro is doing a great thing with this cool cat line, good tone thats affordable for anyone. But overdrive is one of the most used effect pedal so of course there is going to be a huge market for them, and different companies will keep innovating, live zvex. Think of it this way, companies have to keep innovating and changing things, if we didnt, we would all just play TS 808's for the rest of our life.
So are the overpriced overdrive pedals a bad thing? I dont know, I know im not buying them, but the point is that someone is, all we can hope for is that there will still be companies out there to make affordable pedals, or innovate on pedals we already have.

i will say this. i am definitely sympathetic to the 'economies of scale' arguement. & the intellectual property arguement. then of course there is the moral & ethical arguement (which in no way shape or form am i going to get into.) & like personally, from a design standpoint i think those Cool Cat pedals are ugly as tar. this isn't even about the lawyer w/ money to burn that plays Stones covers on the weekends or whatever. to me, yeah, this is more about maximizing utility & separating the wheat from the chaff & like seriously what would teh kurdtz do?
