Fender did this back in 1995 for strats they even did it with maple necks. If you do an ebay search to include the title and description with the words 1995, Fender, and matching something will almost always come.

a friend of mine almost bought a candy apple red one around that time, but too many hours spent watching pink floyd's 'live at pompeii' meant he opted for a gilmour-esque snooze-machine instead.

I used to have a 1995.They sell for about $700-$800 on Ebay.

curt kirkwood used one at the show here a couple years back. surf green strat, that is. he made it look like one of those mini strats.

this may be a picture of him playing it (can't tell if the headstock's painted or not):
