I’ve got the single pickup version, they’re excellent guitars. All the folk who go on about them being cheap can’t have played one (the finish is a love it or hate it thing), mine has become my go to guitar.

now, single cutaway, maybe. but those dual cutaway melody makers just look bloated to me. <3 modern tune-o-matic though.

Want melody maker.

I think it's the only guitar I've consistently wanted since I started playing. White ones are amazing.

It’s quite bright with the tone pot at 10, I very rarely have it turned past 6(ish). I was surprised at variety of tones I could get from one pickup. Very responsive to subtle changes using tone pot (tonnes of sustain as well), I don’t have to adjust my amp settings going from this to my Tele small adjustments on the guitar and that’s it.

Is this the beginnings of a Melody maker fan club? (the last time I posted about them they got slated by everyone except progrockabuse)

i'm just a sucker for single pickup gibsons. That and any guitar with p90's on it.

I think i'll end up getting a white MM while there still cheap, i know how hard it was to get my MM when the discontinued them. It's that or the sweet dearmond jet star going for cheaps at my local guitar shop

Oooooh, what pickups has it got in it? Get it, and get your Bo Diddley on. I used to have a shortscale semi DeArmond Starfire bass with Gold Tone pickups, and it was ace. Not that arsed about the new MM's (other than the Joan Jett one, but have heard differing reports on the neck size) - conventional internet wisdom seems to suggest that yours will be the better guitar. Buy the DeArmond, and that scratchplate to junior-ify your MM.

EDIT: The more I think about this, the more I like the idea of a Jetstar: how cheap's cheap? And what colour is it?

I really want to get that plate for my MM but don't want to use ebay. Ideas?

gibson should really do like fender did with the classic player/classic MIM stuff. that would really kick ass, instead of shit like this

Get a friendly forumite (ie. me, if you want) to buy it from eBay for you if you send them (ie. me) the cash?

Or is there some other reason for not wanting to use eBay?

i'm just paranoid of something going wrong with ebay. like bad feedback, getting ripped off etc. though it's risk with anything like that.

i don't know if a standard les paul jr pickguard would fit it. i could get one of those from WD

fuck me.
The first of the 2009 Limited Run Series guitars from Gibson USA — the Holy Explorer — is prime example of Gibson’s imaginative spirit.
another example of their 'imaginative spirit' is expecting more than 3 people on earth to pay $2775 for that bloody monstrosity.
