I think it's doable with some of the kits that give you everything including chassis and instructions. I'm planning to do this one day but I'll be starting small and working up. Probably with something like a Champ first up and maybe topping out at a Fender Deluxe Reverb which is pretty much the only amp apart from the ones I have that I would really like to own.

I'd thought about trying my hand at that tube cricket amp kit, it's like .5 watts. But I ended up getting one of those lil smokeys for free so my tiny high gain amp needs are pretty much met.

I found a new, nice amp building kit place in the UK, but I'm fucked if I can find it now. Must be in my work bookmarks.

Not for me, obviously, I can only just wire a plug.

bassmen are pretty simple, for men of our ilk, i think. as far as amps go.

The preamp board is pretty simple, it's all the other stuff I'm more concerned about, like Heater element wiring, Filter Caps, tube wiring in general etc. All the transformers and that nonsense.

Dunno, I think a Dwarfcraft amp would be pretty awesome/terrifying.

No fucking way. That is amazing.

You have serious skills, HiWatt quality wiring there, Buddy. Where did you get this kit from and what are your experiences with the various kit makers?

i got the kit from www.vintagehiwattrestorations.com. it's a bit pricier than weber, but the parts quality is much better. weber is still a good deal and a good option for a first build. just be prepared to upgrade a few components (the fuse holder and pilot lamp are ridiculously crappy).

Thanks for the heads up about Weber, it's nice to hear from someone who has actually built one.

Brilliant work, Justin
