I has questions about JagmAster

Painting? Routing? Set-up tips? Or just straight-up making a guitar from scratch? Post here, and post pics!

I has questions about JagmAster

Post by JamesSmann »

Hey,

So I just struck a deal with Sparky for his Jagmaster that he's selling. I'm so super stoked on this. When I demo'd the jagmaster with hurb and dots i had three main complaints about it:

1. Bridge would not intonate for fuck all
2. tort on guard looked shitty bon bitty
3. pups
3a. tuners

sparky's already has upgraded PUPs, so that's bad ass. there's a black guard on it now, but i really love the sunburst/mint combo on my AmDel Jazz Bass so my first question is are replacement Jagmaster pickguards available? If so, me needs a mint one.

next, what kind of bridge would ya'all reccomend i drop in this bad boy? i want somethign decent that will intonate well but not cost me a dick and a ballsack.

Why wouldn't the original bridge intonate? Replacing it doesn't sound like the solution unless the stock one isn't fully adjustable.

tbh, it probably needed a setup. but i can't explain it...it just "felt" off...now, granted, i think sparky's is older and the bridge used might be different enough to be okay...really my biggest complaints were the tort on the guard and the pickups, both of which are mod'd on sparky's, so i'm not too too worried about it.

I think a good bridge will make the setup easier, but it should still be possible with the old one. I personally love the look of the hipshot strat bridges (well, the hardtail at least) but it's a clean modern look and probably wouldn't suit tort.

I had a 25.5" scale one that wouldn't intonate, and have experience with 24" ones that do it niceley.

yeah, it's a 25.5" scale...so i'm hoping the issues aren't there. i'm not too worried about it really, because from the descriptions Sparky gave me and the pics it looks like a nice solid little guitar. and since i can'ts afford me a jazzmaster just let, this'll do for now. :)

EXCITEMENT! :D

The intonation woes are generally associated with the conversion neck, not the bridge. It was a struggle to get it set up correctly on my strat, but definitely worthwhile.

Glad to hear you've got big plans for this. I tried out a Squier Telecaster neck on it for a bit and it sounded and played GREAT! I just didn't like the shortscale neck on the telecaster. Harsh!

Do you have pics of the Jazz Bass? I don't think I've ever seen it.
