Bought a Gretsch

Post by DGNR8 »

Before you start teh haet, let me tell you that it has botched repairs done on the back and it doesn't intonate for shit. It may only be worth this much. I could have put it in the Projects section. I will either leave the holes or consider hiding them in a burst. I haven't gotten a good look at it yet.

In case something happens to John in a botched burglary involving some Northern fuckers I'm calling second dibs.

LOL EMG!

The guy had a stack of cases and antiques everywhere. He lived in a modest house in one of the richest burbs in the area, and there was stuff piled everywhere. He said he bought it at an estate sale. He seemed a bit eccentric, so I didn't waste any time. Once I saw it in person, I figured I could take a chance. For all I know I am going to have to re-set the neck. Pics tomorrow.

I have edited a bunch from my other projects. Once it stopped raining, I got busy with paint. Here's the 63 Gretsch Corvette. It's only got about 4 coats of clear so far though. Set necks slow things way down. This is not a Fender red. You cannot believe how bright red it is. It doesn't look like much yet, but it's going to be a mother, even with only one pickup.

Clear coats are done. See ya in six weeks after curing. Of course I already have all the parts ready to go. Hmmm. Can't remember if I has caps.

As for the Synchro, the tailpiece looks too new to be OG, and it's had a bit of butchering done, but it intonates after all. Nice, warm sound. I already have it sanded for painting

Here's an example from ebay. It's painted like a Tele. I can make it even thinner, without primer, to show grain. I have a partial can left. Hmm.

Gonna be sweet, you do quality work with these fixer-uppers. Look forward to a smattering of your restoration photo collages.
