Marshall Haze amps
specifically the 40 combo...
has anyone tried one out yet ???
I've searched high and low on the net and there's still a limited number of reviews and opinions on them.
Seems like it's getting a very mixed response.
Seeing as I'm unable to find a jcm 800 combo after a good few weeks of searching, this is my alternative option.
cheers

Built-in digital effects = FAIL
Disregard whether or not they sound good. It's a fragile, non-fixable proprietary board that, once it's out of warranty, cannot be swapped for a fresh one. Once it goes (5, 10 years if you're lucky) the amp will always be broken. It may still work as a normal amplifier, but it will always be sold as a broken amplifier and therefore will sell for a tiny fraction of its original cost. Buying digital, assume your resale value is a quarter of whatever it cost you. Also understand that if you keep it long enough it will break in a way which nobody can fix. If you're OK with those facts, then check it out. Personally, $800 is a lot to pay for something with that many caveats. For that price, you could find a used Marshall which can be maintained and kept for decades.

Fuck PCBs and digital effects, how about the fact that it could never be worth that much, regardless of how it's built.

PCBs are fine in my book. It slows down repairs a bit, but caps and whatnot have gotten much better and last quite long. I feel like above $800 or so you should be getting into hand-wired, though. The new Ampeg Jet is hand-wired PTP and is getting blown-out for $450 all over town.
I've been working on my PCB Ampeg a lot and it's really OK. Once I got some decent solder wick everything went fast. Changing 4 pots and adding a standby took maybe an hour working slow. Plus you can add SS circuitry on a PCB, like the reverb stage in my Ampeg.

I'm not a fan of them. I played one a few days ago. It sounded like there was a blanket over it. No mid range or treble, especially with a les paul. The whole LP/Marshall thing is suppose to be like PB&J right? Even with a tele it was still too muddy for my taste. Maybe the 6V6 tubes have something to do with it? Where are the EL84s/EL34s? This is just a mediocre fender blues jr with marshall slapped on it, along with some extra bucks.

For the record I didn't mean "fuck pcbs and digital effects," I meant "nevermind the fact that it has those..."
I think the amp is overpriced for what it is, and you could do better. For the prices they sell at in the states I would sooner buy one from a handful of smaller tube combos or heads out there on the used and new market... it's not going to be a poorman's 800 by any means.
