update, mentioned in another thread. my part didn't arrive at the shop today. thought it may be too late for a friday delivery. the e string is holding well on the broken tuner. so gonna risk using it and take my strat as a spare. it may be here tomorrow, just waiting on fenders posting skills.

The low E f-tuner on my MIM 70's classic strat neck is too narrow to accept a .52 and I've been worried about this happening.

my local shop were absolutely fucking awful when i broke one of the machineheads off my ibanez. good to hear yours aren't.

i rang them up, they said they'd order it and i could come and pick it up. i'd have to pay for the machinehead of course.
i waited three weeks, calling every 3 or 4 days to ask if it'd come in yet (hey, it was my only electric and i had no idea i could just buy a set from somewhere else, i wanted my tuner) then just did some research and bought some off axesrus.

this was in june/august 2006, still waiting for the call to tell me it's in...

i think it's difficult to find somewhere with good after-service. i used to go to a place in nottingham all the time, but in the end i'd get shafted and have to pay for parts etc and it costs more to get to notts. the one i use now is right on the doorstep and they'll normally bend over backwards to help me. i get free strings, deals on stuff, they'll get stuff in for me to try (within reason) without buying. even end up having jams in the shop some time. i normally get on the upright bass or lap steel. it's quite a laugh.

they're getting a classic vibe duo sonic in next month and i've got first dibs :D
