i have a set pretty much like that on my esquire-y thing and my strat...they may not look "pretty" like klusons or whatever, but they hold tune better than any tuner i've ever used...which for me is the most important thing because i fucking hate the thought of my guitar going out of tune every two or three songs.Mike wrote:Those tuners are so fucking ugly.

I had/have vintage style Klusons on the following instruments:
'72 Telecaster Deluxe RI
Baja Telecaster
'65 Mustang RI
Classic Player Jaguar
They all held/hold tune exquistely. Vintage style Kluson/Ping tuners are the best you can buy in my opinion. They are ergnomically far superior and perform flawlessly.

i've found that a properly cut nut and properly stringing a guitar will negate tuning issues, regardless of what kind of tuner you use.St. Jimmy wrote:i have a set pretty much like that on my esquire-y thing and my strat...they may not look "pretty" like klusons or whatever, but they hold tune better than any tuner i've ever used...which for me is the most important thing because i fucking hate the thought of my guitar going out of tune every two or three songs.Mike wrote:Those tuners are so fucking ugly.
as far as i can tell, tuners are purely cosmetic choice.

unbunch your panties for a second, okay Champ? your tendency to negate everyone else's experiences because yours are dfferent is obnoxious and unnecessary in this case. i said FOR ME they held tune better than any other tuner i've used. doesn't mean it's the case for everyone. in fact, i even acknowledged that their appeal on the aesthetic side is limited at best, but function FOR me is the most important part. and i'd continue to put the TUNERS YOU HAYTE SO MUCH on guitars I play because I like them. you know, i'm just down with that whole "do whatever the fuck you want to the instrument you paid for" thing.Mike wrote:I had/have vintage style Klusons on the following instruments:

I think you're taking this a little personally, I'm not even talking to you. The subject of this thread is not you, or your guitar.
And the tuners look ugly on the Telecaster that is the subject of this thread. I have no idea why Fender uses those on their more "premium" models. They're awful in every way.
If you want to cry about it, that's fine, but you're completely wrong - there is no benefit to a non Kluson/Ping style tuner. They're horrible to use and they look awful, both aesthetically and when strung up.

this is why you are a boorish jack-ass mike. i'm not wrong. i have a different OPINION than you. i do find benefit in those tuners. they feel more solid, they seem to wind the string more smoothly and they hold tune better FOR MY TASTES. if this thread isn't about me and my guitars, it's not about you and your imperious, bullshit sentiments about the "four guitars you've owned that are just so Jesus-Worthy with their tuners."Mike wrote:I think you're taking this a little personally, I'm not even talking to you. i prefer klusons because they're easier to setup with, but i've never noticed any tuning instability with the other style. . . and i've had them on many, many guitars. to be honest, kluson-style heads look uglier to me from the top, all choppy and what-not, but this is actually a fairly "amber switch tip" type of debate.
wtr, i totally would've kept the cyclone over the tele, but the american deluxe series are some great feeling guitars. how does the neck compare to other teles you've played?
