temple of Teisco

Post by filtercap »

So. That place I mentioned in the Teisco thread a couple weeks back. Bradley's Guitars on Ballard Avenue in Seattle. No website. I finally got down there this afternoon, hoping to see what sounds could be coaxed from their glorious collection of poptrash. DENIED -- they're only open from noon till 3 on Saturdays and Sundays, and it was maybe 4:00-ish. I shall prevail someday soon. In the meantime, here are some windowshopper shots.

I dig that little sunburst Kent. Cheap guitars in the late 50s/early 60s looked so much classier.

That's a Guyatone. It looks like something straight out of a Ramones nightmare(But long before The Ramones). That era of Japanese guitars was so cool cause they were clearly digging on Mosrites but also doing very cool Mosrite shapes along with the first copies which were rough.

Man, I love those Teisco EV-2T Vox Phantom copies. Especially the blue one. I could see myself spending hours in that place. Thanks for posting pics.

I actually like the japanese mosrite copies more than teh original mosrites in some cases. They distorted the body shape into some killer styles with longer more pointed horns and really extreme curves. I love that shit.

That's a European guitar not a Tesico. It's an EKO.

some -about 2- years ago, i was offered one of these. for 500 pesos... that's around US$30!!!! some idiot had painted YAMAHA on the headstock (WTF? is that better!!!??). i thought about it and said no thanks, it's just too odd for me, and hopped on the bus.

2 minutes later i thought of joy division and went *GULP*

they had to stop the bus to drag me out cuz i was bleeding too much, from kicking myself in the face... (or something).

DAMN!

i'd be interessed to see the pricing of those things. all those woolworth/sears guitars were considered smashable/firewood crap some years ago. and now they're collectable. geez.

ok i just bought a mid-60s airline (harmony) rocket as well...

Those Harmony Rockets are rockabilly monsters. I've played a few and they were great guitars. The Teisco EV-2T is something I've wanted for a while but they go for way too much. I've got a neck and a set of teisco pickups. An EV-2T is on my future project list.
