There is a need depending on how you use the Jaguar.
If you fit high output pickups (or use high gain) the third harmonics behind the bridge become more audible, to the point that they interfere with the guitars sound like delayed notes. The only way to stop it without changing the bridge or muting the strings behind the bridge with duct tape is to break the angle. In effect shortening the string length behind the bridge.
Buzzstop works a treat.
I found this out when i fitted a DiMarzio humbucker in the Burgundy Mist model.

Also, good point made by Jon about drop tuning. If the string tension is loose say using C standard tuning you have a lot of problems with string jumping. The angle is not sharp enough over the bridge to the trem.

But all this brings us back full circle of course...

it needs a buzz stop actually, i'm rocking CGCGGD and the low C pops out all the time.

The Buzzstop makes a difference for me on my Jazzy; maybe not 40 quids worth of difference, but it helps the guitar along in how I want it to feel.

i wouldn't say i hate them per se, but i agree the need is pretty dubious as far as i'm concerned. i don't have problems with buzz or sustain.
+1, just seem pointless to me, unless you're tuning way down p'raps.

Or... if you're running 11's and aren't a fan of strings popping out of saddle slots.

The buzzstop does a great job of keeping your strings in place with "lighter" gauge strings. Not everyone wants to run flatwound 13's on their Jag...

My '65 - which was completely gone though and set up by a luthier - would lose them all the time before the buzzstop. Not all the way off of the saddle, but it would jump slots particularly on the low E. I haven't had any problems since the Buzzstop, and haven't noticed any negatives.

I usually hate the look of mint but I cannot deny that this is one pretty guitar...

Love what you did with the cover for the bridge pickup.... very neat!
