Weber 5E3 (Fender tweed) chassis built for $240 !

Post by malko »

Noticed a discussion about this on another forum. To be honest this seems like a top deal. Its handwired (okay okay in China) but even with import, vat and shipping i reckon this would cost about 250 quid to get it to the UK (if anyone can come up with a more accurate cost then please do) Add to that a weber speaker, tubes and a cabinet and you could have a nice 5E3 for about 500ish notes!

Heres the link

What's that, you ask? Yes, it is made in Asia from Asian parts. Hence, the low price, and the naming of it "So Watt ?!".... (so what).
Thanks for that, Weber. That pun was way over my head.

Based on the info on the site and the schematic, looks like 50W. It's a Bassman with two 6L6 tubes.

Only problem would be the american power rating, would need a replacement transformer? Anyone ever got a friend in the states to buy something then post it to them as a "birthday" present or something?

No a 5E3 is a Tweed Deluxe as far as i know.

I have an amp with an American power outlet. There are transformers available to make it UK, but the amp came with a power transformer so I just use that. It's not really much hassle but of course if you take it anywhere it's an extra bit to lug around, and buying this kit it would be an added expense. Do Weber offer a version with a UK power transformer?

Wait, scratch my post. I was looking at the thing above it on that link. The 5E3 is a Fender Deluxe. This thing uses two 6V6s, I think that puts it closer to 30W? I haven't looked up the power output of 6V6 tubes.

EDIT: should be around 18-20W

5E3 is 12 Watts RMS. It usually gets rounded to 15.
