Mic'd Demos

So I recently got a one microphone plug to put mics into my computer so i can do mic'd demos now.

I was wondering how you guys set it up? I was thinking record the audio with the mic, on to a simple recording program like audacity, and at the same time recording the video. Then later syncing them up, and then doing commentary over it, or at the very beginning, ala mike demos.

Any suggestions? How do you do it?

i run my mic into the comp and record w/ audacity, while running the camera for video.
after i sync the audio to the video and mute the videos audio track [i just confused myself

do a video to yack about the pedal and get some FACE TIME ((hellyeah))

when i get really lazy i just record the audio w/ a mic and put pictures of the settings up [Memory Boy demo]

Its pretty simple stuffs

depends.

if you have something you can record your voice with, like a webcam mic or something, then just do 2 tracks in whatever recording software you want (i use sonar personally) and record your guitfiddle and your voice.

if not, and you have a standalone camera, use that audio. i find it easiest to rip the audio from the video then cut up stuff so your cam audio isn't over the close mic in a multitracker rather than trying to do it in a video application or something.

or do it the reece way and scribble things on a notepad halfway through the demo because you can't be arsed to set up voice recording.

I always run a mic with the camera and then sync it up. you can clap your hands together at the start for a reference to sync the vid.

One thing i like to do is get a lot of extra video footage from other angles or whatever and throw those in. Check my yamaha cpx 15 vid [[url=ttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U2Zw6nJHMOM&fea ... annel_page]link[/url]] for kinda that idea - i threw in pictures and everything on that one. I was really pleased with it except the vid quality is really bad. ha!

I thought I would ask questions and resurrect this thread instead of starting my own.

So, what qould you recomment using for doing the synching of video to audio? Anything free/cheap would be preferrable

I use sony vegas (or avisynth if i don't need anything special) but windows move maker is more than adequate.

Just make sure you have something to align them to, like a big clap or a few strums on muted strings.

Excellent, thanks for that Reece. I will once and for all try and sort something out for the demo of my new amp this weekend.
