Best style guitar for a first time build?

Post by foofoo982 »

I've been itching to build my own guitar for awhile now, but I'm not sure what would be the easiest type to wire up, since I don't know how to solder. I have a fender cyclone and a 69' RI mustang, and I'd kind of like something different. I'm not too worried painting and finishing a body. Any tips for some one wanting to build a guitar for their first time?

Tele deluxe would be fun I think. Should I not think about trying to wire up that style volume/tone controls though?

Do you mean building a guitar from scratch? If so I agree a LP Jr or tele...also you could do a basic one pickup straight to jack for full on slab of wood noise.

look up soldering guides on the web - it's not rocket science, and essentially comes down to "heat melty stuff enough so the join looks shiny and neat" and get a pointy soldering iron for a few sheets. Practice a bit.

yea, this is what I was wondering as well. what do you mean exactly? building from scratch or just assembling parts?

because if you're really building from scratch the wiring is probably the easiest part.

I'd probably buy an unfinished body to sand and paint. I don't think I have room in my apartment for a router.
