looks like maybe an early duosonic or musicmaster. it's tough to tell.
i've heard he used mustangs and i know he played with the talking heads for a bit and they loved shortscales.

They played teh shortscales because they were cheap. Jerry loved him some Telecaster action and Byrne loved him a Strat.

IDK.
It is the best sounding live stuff I've heard from the Talking Heads. Plus Tina Weymouth is sex incarnate in it.

After Belew joined the Talking Heads, Byrne started playing Strats. After Belew joined the Talking Heads, Belew starting wearing ridiculous baggy suit trousers.

HAH! He likes Kahlers. ADRIAN FUCKING BELEW likes FUCKING KAHLERS on FUCKING SHOTSCALES.
Not that anyone was ever arguing with me about Kahlers, or Kahlers on shortscales, but I feel I've scored a minor victory here.
Edit: He also uses actives, though admittedly Lace Sensors are about a world or two apart from "my" EMGs...

Is Tina Weymouth the coolest bassist ever?
Why, yes. Yes, she is.

from what I remember they're not active pickups, just had no-holes covers on them for the paint job.
The guts of a GR300 controller in there as well.

Maybe you're too young to remember the 80s? That suit was the kind of thing funeral directors used to wear. Everyone else looked like Cindy Lauper, it wasn't nice.

Here is Adrien using one of his modified Mustangs:

Also, I met Tina Weymouth when she was hosting the In Pittsburgh Music Awards in 89 (ish). Not only was she very nice, she knew everything about the PGH music scene, amazing since she was not a local, so to speak.
