English please...

Are you saying that the epi is a good deal and should buy because it sounds good and can be modded easy or are you saying (what you actually typed) is that the eip is bad and something else (which you failed to name) is better..

BTW, most people who are against the epi's are so because they don;'t have alot of clean headroom. When they came out, it was worth modding them like that because there were not alot of other smaller decent amps. Now there are tons.

Personally, I would go for the bugera (and have...Should be here any day.)

the epi's sound great with single coils (in my opinion).

i dont own a guitar with humbuckers, but the demos i heard on youtube of people playing les pauls through them sounded terrible (to me).

I have an EVJ Half Stack and I'm pleased with it. The limited headroom serves me well since I don't like to play very loud. It stays clean loud enough for me.
It takes pedals relatively well, too, and you'll need that, seeing as how it has nothing 'cept for a volume knob.

You get what you pay for. I wouldn't say it's the best choice, but it's certainly not a bad one.

I would still recommend Valve Jnrs for the price, sound and ability to mod the shit out of them. I haven't really tried any of the newer small tube amps though. I thought the blackheart 5W looked good until I noticed that it doesn't have a master volume. 3W of tube power is still really loud turned up.

I play single coils mostly and when I dimed my un-modded Valve Jnr it hardly broke up at all. With single coils it'll stay clean well above bedroom volumes. I love the clean tone out of my Valve Jnr.

Where can I buy Matamp products?

Here - they're much quicker (and will tell you if they have any GT4's kicking around) if you phone them up. Do be prepared to be on the phone for about an hour listening to Jeff's tales from the rock'n'roll trenches, though...

I bought a Fender Champion 600 last week for €172.00 new and I am very happy with it. I like the option of the low and high gain inputs.

In the store I played through it using an American Telecaster and the tone was orgasmic. Makes me want to buy a Fender Telecaster as well.

Right now the only guitar I have is a 2008 Gibson Firebird V and it sounds great through the Fender Champion 600. Using the low gain input I will put the volume at 6 (it goes to 12) and select both the neck and bridge pick-ups on my Gibson Firebird V cutting the volume on the neck pickup back to 5 and backing off the treble to 9... this gives it an almost acoustic guitar sound.

I can also get a great mid-1960s rock sound out of it by using the low gain input again and putting the volume at 8. I will then turn the neck pick up all the way up (keeping the treble at 9) and backing off the neck pick-up, leaving it at 7. if I want to play a lead using this amp and guitar combination it has to be the neck pick-up because it's too shrill on the neck pick up at any treble setting. I also switch to the hi-gain input when playing leads.

There is a whole community of people out there moding these Fender Champion 600 amplifiers. People are swapping out tubes, transistors and speakers trying to get that heavily over driven sound.

Personally, I bought it for the clear tones and will probably just keep it stock.

I see you can buy them by using the form on their website... however they don't list prices for their products and they have no on-line shopping cart. Not really convenient.

I have been wanting a Matamp for a while now but buying one is just so much of a hassle.

häm ... do an What? Oh, an That . What? :D

I had that amp (the combo) and I sold it because it did not sound great stock. It sounded ok (=not great, but ok) with a Telecaster, but it was very muddy with any other guitar that has just a little less treble. That can be a strat, a Jazzmaster, and Humbucker guitars of course.

I'm not one of those that buy an amp to mod it. I want a good amp to use, and maybe someday upgrade it to a better amp. Because I am no modder but a player. And that Epi, the speaker sucks, the tubes suck and it has less features than a beer bottle. You can get better amps for the same money today. And you can get equally ok Amps for even fewer money, without tubes then, of course. And, of course, much better amps for a little more money. Add everything you need to stick on that Epi for a good sound, and it's a more expensive thing, too ;)

Not picking sides here but that site (Matamp) doesn't work well for me. They claim to have a distributor (or whatsitcalled) here in Finland, but the either the link doesn't work, or the site is just down. Or they don't have a vendor here, after all. Still, kinda interested about those amps. If I had the money now, I'd probably go for the VOX AC4. Or maybe not. Or man up, and buy a bigger amp. Or then I'd just buy a bigger amp for my bass, since that's what I primarily do.

Aye, the Matamp website is assballs. The Minimats look well cool, but they're too rich for my blood.

Disagreed. I like how they sound stock. It's not gonna sound like a £300 amp because it's a £70 combo amp with an 8" speaker. I dunno how you thought it sounded muddy, 'cause everyone always complains to me that it's problem is that it lacks bass. I figure you could solve this by getting the head and using it through a 12" speaker. It cost me all of about £20 to add a Master Volume, Gain Switch, Bright Switch and a Standby Switch to my EVJ. So it is not more expensive after modding.

May I ask what amps you can get for a little more money that are much better?
