Copper heart-shaped box

This is a copper heart-shaped box that I made for my girlfriend.

I made it out of 16 oz roofing copper, and applied a patina to the entire box, in which the lid turned out very strangely; which I love.

An art deco pearl ring from 1925 was intended to go inside of it, but I ended up losing it by a penny on eBay, and I could not find a suitable replacement, so I just decided to give her the box as is.

Very nice, I like the somewhat unpredictable nature of patina. Have you done a lot of work with copper is it a more recent thing?

I've done a fair share of work with copper, especially this year; almost every project I have done involved copper in some way.

the patina is called verdigris (for those not in the know) which is a lovely word, don't you think?

it used to form the basis for green pigments in oil paintings in them olden days.

I keep some of it in a powder form around.

I usually let a piece of copper sit around with a solution on it to form a thick, powdery patina, and then sand it off, and keep the powder to sprinkle on things.
