what?

gibson to make hendrix line of guitars

blah blah blah, i know he used the V and SG, but when i think of hendrix, it is certainly not an image of him and a gibson.

Yeah I think I saw that before.

Really Jimi played just about every guitar there was at the time.

Surprised nobody is trying to do the same thing.

bwahahaha but notice that no guitars are shown in the creatively cropped photos, because he was playing Fenders in all of them!

gibson always puts out signatures and tribute guitars for everyone, as long as they have played a gibson once before they will put out a model for that person. Example, jeff beck mainly plays strats they have a signature les paul for him.

How can he have a signature model when he's too dead to sign it?

Hendrix did a lot of good work in the studio and in concert with Gibsons. The reason he had Fenders is because he was lefty and they were easy to play. When he got some dough he got a bunch of Gibsons. Not to say he didn't like the Fenders but he was a person who loved tones and colors.

Jeff Beck played a tele and strat during different parts of his career but he had great period of work with his Les Paul in the Jeff Beck Group. He did a lot of stuff that was new and would be way influential by way of Led Zeppelin who took a lot of ideas from this group. The Jeff Beck oxblood they released is a very iconic and memorable guitar, it's just that you young kids don't know shit.

I would consider Eric Clapton to be the finest rock music Gibson player of all time because of the work he did in the 60's with his Les Paul and SG. Eric is considered probably by most people a strat player, but I think save a few exceptions he's nowhere near what he was when he played Gibsons. Really Eric Clapton made his name playing Gibsons.

Also this deal just looks like a brand deal and a way to keep his legacy out there outside of records. The estate has done this with pedals like The Digitech signature pedal that did multi-effects. Jimi never played a digital multi-effects pedal but who cares, it's for the fans. If you don't like it, don't buy it.

i tend to associate clapton with les pauls, but that's because i've blotted out everything he did post-1969.

Exactly, I don't understand the appeal of signature guitars other then collecting, but even then, that's a lot of money for another piece of a collection. I would never play a signature guitar, I would rather try to get a guitar that I like and not one that my idol likes.

wow. how old are you?

i'd have to agree that clapton had a much better sound (bandwise) when playing with a LP, but his influence with the stratocaster is undeniable, no matter how old you are.

i feel similarly toward beck (my fave album of his is wired which featured both pauls and strats), but i am not a huge fan of his overuse of the tremolo.

nah, I'm sure Gibson got the deal from "Authentic Hendrix" because they outbid the other guitar makers. the whole thing really turns me off. it's all just a pathetic cash in on the man's legacy.

Maybe in the next Guitar Hero, they'll have Jimi playing "smells like teen spirit"

EDIT: scratch that, I quite like the old gun metal Page Hamilton ESP as well.

I like the Fender Jag-Stang. You might have heard of it. It was the Kurt Cobain sig model, I believe.
