Quick refinish question: I saw pictures of this mustang body with finish cracks
Can you just remove the clear finish with removing the stain and refinish to repair the cracks?

Although the clear the colour are visibly seperate layers, they're going to be the same type of paint. So you'd have as much luck removing just the clear as you would trying to remove, say, one layer of clear and leave the rest. You could perhaps gently sand and hope that by the time you reach the base of the cracks you have enough colour left to sand smooth and re-clear coat, but you'd be much better off refinishing it completely. Also it would mean you could do it in a colour that isn't so ugly.
Shabba.

Mine (or soon to be mine) is in great shape, so no need to refin. It doesn't have the matching headstock though, which is kinda bumming me out after seeing this one.prospect wrote:@brianeharmonjr Awesome man! Are you going to refin it?
@taylornutt What James said. You could lightly sand down the clear coat and hopefully get to a point where the cracks weren't there. However you would risk sanding through into the color.

Antigua! I wouldn't touch it. Cracks are awesome.taylornutt wrote:Quick refinish question: I saw pictures of this mustang body with finish cracks
If you're using nitro over nitro, you can just spray it and it will soften the old and fill in cracks.
Look at this one I just saw at Reranch. Normally I get so bored of these posts, but I LOLed at this one. It looks like it was found under the Superdome.

I received mine and got it strung up. It's pretty damn near mint condish, so I'm gonna try not to beat it up too bad. Here it is:prospect wrote:Play the hell out of it and let it get scratched up.
Then you can justify a sweet refin w/ matching headstock
My next project is to give my black XII a matching headstock.
I'm addicted to painted headstocks now.
I agree... don't touch it!DGNR8 wrote:Antigua! I wouldn't touch it. Cracks are awesome.taylornutt wrote:Quick refinish question: I saw pictures of this mustang body with finish cracks

I got a old peice of furniture from grandma and the whole thing is checked everywhere. I just smile everytime I walk by it, it looks awesome. You can buy character.
I would only repair it, if it starts flaking off badly. Blush remover would also be good for that kind of repair.
So what's the next project Prospect?
