westtexasred wrote:Yes that is a 481 and the one I posted at the top is actually a 483(3 pickups) and the color is Azureglo(not Midnight Blue).
yeah, the 481 had slanted frets (god knows why) and is a bit more sought after than the 480 these days.

anything related to FLCL kicks ass.

They were trying to patent it as being easier to play as slanting the frets would allow your fretting hand to conform easier,
As shown here

480s & 481s are lovely guitars, I've been slowly searching for one for sometime, they're just too pricey. I never knew that a 483 existed, but i guess I've just over looked it.

The 483's were special order.I think very few of them exist.

These can be bought on eBay from time to time. They came with set necks as well. Rickenbacker C.E.O. John Hall said somewhere on the Rickenback forum that these would never be made again... from his comment I got the idea that he didn't like this model at all...

I almost bought one last year on eBay, it even came with a tube Rickenbacker amplifier... I should have bought it

If I was gonna buy one I would buy the set neck version, and one from the early 1970s from what I have read the popular opinion is these are better guitars

I REALLY want to try one of those slanted fret models, but have yet to come across one in person.
