Fender '57 Deluxe - actually '65 Princeton

So, following the conversation about cabs and ohmage in the champion 600 thread, I would like to ask for someone to clear this up for me.
The out on my Princeton is marked "minimum 8 ohm". There are 2 jack sockets, one marked internal speaker, and one external. The internal speaker is 8 ohm.
For some reason it's confusing me, I guess it's the word "minumum" that is doing it.
My question is, what configurations of multiple speaker can I put through it?
Can I plug the internal speaker in and also another 8 ohm speaker?
Or can I plug 2 external 16 ohm speakers in? One 8 and a 16? You get what I'm asking...

i have this problem with my blues deluxe. it has a similar arrangement of an internal socket and an external socket, but doesn't say how i can use it.

I've wondered the same thing, my Bassman 10 is labeled like this.

It could be that it wants a minimum of 8 ohms on the external alone which would mean 8 ohm internal and 8 ohm external is 4 ohms total. Or it could be it wants a minimum 8 ohms total, and you can't use an external without disconnecting the internal speaker.

Does anyone know for a fact what is meant by this?

I'm afraid you're buggered.

Minimum 8 ohms means minimum 8 ohms, and the two jacks will be in parallel.

Any parallel combination of resistance/impedance is always less than the smallest value.

8 // 8 = 4

8 // 16 = 5.33

Those are your possible combinations with the internal 8 ohm speaker. The only way to be able to combine internal speaker and an external is to replace the internal with a 16 ohm and also connect another 16 ohm cabinet.

Obviously you can just disconnect the internal speaker and use any 8 or 16 ohm cabinet.

Nice one Mike - that's exactly what I thought, but was confused because "surely" Fender hadn't designed it so not possible to use the stock internal speaker with an extension cab! lol.

I've got both '65 Deluxe Reverb RI and '65 Princeton Reverb RI.

The Deluxe is great for clubs but playing through the trem/reverb channel with pedals is a little crappy. You get an aweful buzzy/tinny sound when playing with anything hotter than a mild boost pedal. The louder you play, the less the effect but it's still there. The normal channel is fine with pedals, but it's always pissed me off. I think it's the bright cap on the inside, as where the twin you can flip it in and out of the circut and the deluxe is fixed.

It's a great amp, portable and loud enough to hang with pretty loud bands.

The Princeton sounds great till you push it and the stock speaker gets a little flubby on the low E string. I've heard people swapping out the speaker for emmience copperhead 10's or putting a 12" in there too as it'll fit, just need new baffle or cut the current one.

It's just under what I'd consider "enough" volume but it smokes when you're pushing it. It does have the reissue rattle from something, haven't sorted it out but it's a pretty common problem from what I've read.

I've stacked it up to a vintage blackface adn silverface, and was pretty much spot on. It was more focused and somewhat more agressive, but I'd say a lot of that was from the old speakers in the other two. I'm considering selling the deluxe as it hasn't been played since my band broke up and I'm only recording which sounds awesome through the Princeton. You can get it to sound like a stack.

The Dirty Little Secret sounded great on youtube through a princeton if you check it out....saving up for one to add in the chain.

I did a smaller bar here in chicago and it was mic'd (not very good tho) and it just was a tad too quiet to cut through on stage. It sounded fine coming out of the pa, they mixed me in pretty good.

Kinda felt weird tho, b/c I'm a big dude playing a little amp.

Home use/Recording has been killer.
