Aye, the two 18mm pieces were laminated to get the thickness. I quite like that ply sandwhich idea, some 9mm would also take the body to a more standard thickness.

One piece of advice Fran if you do this, is try not to take 12 months to get someone their guitar after they order/pay for it
though looking at your projects, doubt this will be a problem!

If the guitars you are going to make are any bit as cool as the fran/MDFrite, go ahead! I for one would be interested in buying one.

You just exposed my sinister (and quite dark) desires to the public. You tom-cruiseish care bear!
PS. You face looks like it's been custom ordered from minarik

Thanks for all the encouragement and compliments guys.
Talking to another Carpenter at work today about concerns over weak points on a MDF build. Based on our experience we agreed MDF is probably less likely to break or split than solid timber as it has no grain. But to rest my mind i am going to make a body and fix an old neck on it i have, then smash it into a wall repeatedly to see where it breaks and how easily it breaks.
I will video it too, it may be useful for promotional purposes.

The guitar you smash... can it be a Strat painted with the Eddie Van Hallen paint job? I'd like to see that
