Yea POGs are sick pedals. You can get some groovy organ type sounds out of em. HOGs are also sweet. Too bad they're both fucking expensive.

here's deerhoof, the guitar player is using a HOG to great effect. Seriously sounds like an organ here.

The POG and HOG are certainly cool, but you can get that Blue Orchid effect with a lot of other cheaper pedals also, like the Boss PS-5 and the Behringer Copy.

The problem with the POG is one of overuse. The sound is so utterly addictive that it's difficult to stop using it, even in subtle ways. It's really satisfying playing something as over the top as Blue Orchid, but even with the settings turned low, with maybe a little emphasis on the single octave up and a bit of the filter you get quite used to the sound. After a while, turning it off feels like you've robbed your sound of something. It took a while to get used to this and really start using it dynamically. In fact, I still don't think I've managed that. The sound of the POG is now absolutely integral to my guitar sound.

Not quite, they only do one extra octave/harmony on top of your original sound- that White Stripes sound is octave up and down.

It's really something when you dial in the Blue Orchid sound and play it. You might be able to get close approximations with other pedals, but as it's actually a POG that he used, something definitely clicks and you're just thinking "This is exactly the same sound. Exactly."

I'm not being a snob. The POG has a whole feel of its own, which I've noticed of octave pedals. It has a character that is unique.

It's difficult when you first take it out of the box and plug it in to figure out where it might go, how you'll use it. It feels like an expensive one-trick pony, but it really isn't. Also, as a studio effect you could just run all sorts of crazy shit through it.

I think that the POG and HOG are both completely revolutionary pedals. They sound cool as hell and they're just brilliant technology.

They are real next-level stompboxes.

The POG with a big muff is one of the greatest sounds I have ever heard, I have to agree with ekwatts, the pog has its own character and personality that other octave pedals can not replicate at all. The POG is a great tool, a couple of my friends have them, im thinking about picking up a micro pog myself.

I'm absolutely desperate to sell my POG 1 and get the sequel. With the attack filter and the presets, it's just altogether a better animal. Just need Â£60 or so to add onto the price I should be able to get for the original.

I think when the POG came out, my estimation of EHX just went orbital.

I try to post this as often as possible when POGS come up, so you might have it already, but the basic idea is Big Muff, Pog, Twin Reverb, and lowwwwwwwwwtunnnnnnned guitar and drums playing triumphant hard rock church songs.

it is cool. if you whack a bass through a bit of overdrive and into a POG you can totally make it sound like a demonic piano. fun times.

PS3 can do a glitch version of POG.

Magicstomp can do one up one down and everything in between and get close on note tracking.

i have modded POG so you can control the low-pass filter with exp.pedal something that takes it to another level of versatility. i'd say it like two pedals combined. pog with a small flavour of moogerfooger low-pass filter

is the micro pog anywhere near as good as the pog? I don't particularly care to be able to get tons of different sounds, just a few really good ones. I'm using a boss octave now (oc-2) and I like it for the most part but am always looking for cooler shit.

Not sure about the MicroPOG, looks to me like they've tried to replace the sliders with just three knobs and I'm not sure how it works. You can still get the organ sound out of it, it just won't be as versatile. If you want POG sounds, save up for the proper POG 2 if only for the presets.
