Jazzmaster pickups in a Jaguar: Anyone tried it?

Post by brianeharmonjr »

First of all, hello to everyone. I'm a noob here, and this is actually my first new thread on the forum. I've been surfing on here for a while, but haven't seen something I've been looking for. I'm sure if it's around that you folks can direct me to it.

My plan for my next project is to put Jazzmaster pickups in a Jaguar. I love the sound of the Jazzmasters I've owned, but drastically prefer the scale of a Jaguar. Seems like it would be a interesting thing to throw together with just a little routing of the pickguard/body. Anyone ever done this before or have photographic evidence of someone else doing it? Thanks.

I'm pretty sure someone over at OSG has done it. Did you try going through the mods/projects/resto section??
The guitarist from Metric has a yellow jag with jm pups in it. Try searching for images.

Here's one picture I found of Johnny Marr playing a Jag with JM pickups:

the mar pic looks more like a jazzy with jag plates, or maybe a jazzy neck on a jag body with relocated bridge.
hurb made a jazzuar a few years back and i know i have seen at least one other like it before.

Yeah, now that you say that, it does look like a Jazzmaster neck on the Marr guitar. It just surprises me that there aren't more examples. I suppose most people just prefer one or the other. No shortage of offsets with humbuckers though.

i was contemplating putting jazzy pups in my hh jag..
i however don't really trust myself with the routing to make this happen.

Here's a weird one I found. It's a double neck with Jaguar and Jazzmaster pickups. Pretty damn cool.

That's what I'm looking for. I suppose you'd pretty much have to lose the mute. Otherwise it would cram those pickups fairly close together. I should do a little photoshopping and see how it turns out.

So, after a bit of photo-shopping, this is what it would look like to convert to Jazzmaster pickups and keep the mute. The pickups look a bit crammed together, but not bad.

Why do you need to keep the mute?

I'd get rid of the mute just for the aesthetics alone, those pickups look odd positioned that close together.

Instead of a jaguar with jazzy pickups I would prefer a jazzmaster with a conversion neck of some sort.

yea it would prob. be easier to change the neck
