Guitar magazine recommendations.

I personally like the articles in Vintage Guitar.

Off topic doo-doo: Would rather not mention the mag by name, but suffice to say instead of sending us a proper invoice after several months of printing an 6-per-year ad, one actually forwarded our address to a collection agency, to which we subsequently received an odd request on behalf of the publication. That wasn't the main reason we decided to leave them and change mags this year, but it does seem to indicate a rather unwise method of "doing business" with those would they'd want to sustain as their clientele. On the other hand, Premier Guitar seems to have had their act together and had done heaps for us in the past without requesting anything, so we decided to start working with them as of recently. Very cool staff, both knowledgeable and quite personable.

magazines are only good for reading on the john. but really, it just makes you spend way too long in there, like way after the poop stops, youre still reading if you are into it.

I love how when anyone brings up periodicals on the internet it is shortly thereafter concluded that no ones reads that stuff anymore and the print medium is generally worthless. nevermind that everyone who frequents a web forum is obviously biased towards this medium.

I pick up both the Stranger and the Seattle Weekly every week. If I can find a copy, Arthur magazine is definitely my favorite music magazine (it is also free).

If you want to keep up on current events NewsWeek is awesome. it is basically a weekly condensed best of the Washington Post, my hometown newspaper (and one of the two best newspapers in the country if I do say so myself).

If you want to keep up on world events The Economist is effing brilliant. Absolutely packed with news and information about everything going in the world today.

If you want to keep up on arts and culture The New Yorker is outstanding. there is so much good stuff in there it's impossible to read it all before the next one comes out the following week.

i like magazines, EGM was a big part of my life and MAKE is the dhit man.

paper is getting out of hadn though you know.

haha, they are slow aren't they. I finally decided to subscribe to it when we were talking about it in this thread and I just got it yesterday, heheh.

ps - oh and I got a free four issues of The Week as well. sorry gaybear but my verdict is.........

total crap. Newsweek is 500 times better.

They do themed issues quite often (Pedal issue, Acoustic issue, Bass issue). I'm hoping they'll do on offset or shortscale issue at some point.

i recommend none of them as magazines have now - more than ever - become more like catalogues run by the big corporations than actual interesting journalism

it's not internet > periodicals
you can get great periodicals, such as TapeOp It's free, and it's my favorite. subscribe at tapeop.com
it's a community like shortscale
but, if you just want some chords or tab, you can go to tabcrawler.com or whatever.

i second how good tapeOP is. great stuff with les paul retrospective in this issue, loads of early recording history, from the man that basically invented multi-track recording (and about a million other things)

magazines are in a desperate situation. their circulation is shrinking so they have to sell more adds than ever to stay afloat.
