Vista Jagmaster Colors and Pickguards
I have a seafoam green (or possibly called sonic blue) Vista Jagmaster, made in 1997. It has a tortoiseshell guard. Does anyone know if this is the color guard that would have come stock on this guitar? The knobs are white.
Also, is there a color guide for Vista Jagmasters posted somewhere?
I tried finding a parchment or white guard for this guitar but so far no luck.
Thanks!

Cool - I can deal with an Excalibur. Got it for $320 at a second hand instrument store in Maryland about a year ago. I may be a relative beginner, but I know when a guitar feels good in my hands.
I bounced around looking at posts on these guitars and it does look like my pick guard is original. Thanks for tips on pick guard sites.
I will post photos soon.
BTW - Original pickups sound really good on my instructor's '72 Twin Reverb - almost makes him want to get one.

Best way to post photos?
Sorry, I was traveling for a while - now back. I have a couple of photos to post. However, it appears you can't do it direct per the site FAQs... Does the uploader on this site let you set up a separate address on the web to enable linking to photos?
Thanks for any tips!

There was no silver sparkle in the Vista series Jagmaster or in 1997 for that matter. You might be thinking of the Squier Super Sonic. Black was a color it came with tort. There was a red color also, I think it was CAR. White, Sunburst, and a light blue were the other colors.hotrodperlmutter wrote:

i beg to differ.James wrote:First run, second run? If they did a year with just sunburst then introduced more colours, isn't that just introducing more colours?
That's worse than 're-issue' jag-stangs.
while jcyphe is right (scumbag silver came out in 02, i believe), the ones made in '96 had bottom truss rod access, and the 97's had bullet style truss rods and different colors.
a different neck sounds a bit like a different run to me.

I sent one to a US boardie when I first joined here. The info should be in the classified section. As far as I can remember the guard ended up not being what he wanted so who knows what hapened to it.robert(original) wrote:i would love to get a pg from this era and make some rep guards for it. but they seem to be so rare these days.
just cruise ebay and score a nice mint guard!
*EDIT* It was skip hat I gave it too. I told him it'd only fit a Vista and he said that was fine. Turned out he didn't have a Vista. Anyhoo that should be around somewhere. I'll ask him if he still has it and get him to send it on if he stll has it.
I'm not sure that is totally right. I've seen color models with both styles of neck access. You are right that they did switch at some point but I have seen blue ones with both the bullet and bottom truss rod acesss.hotrodperlmutter wrote:

The jagmaster wiki is pretty much accurate.

They did forget a couple things though. There was a special color run for the Japanese market with the third version in Blue and Red. There was also a version that was never released in America that had 3 single coil pickups. I believe this was made for the asian market only and was after the Vista Series around the time of the 2nd version.
They also did a custom Vista in white with matching headstock for the dude from Los Straightjackets.

3 styles of jagmaster in the US
1. Vista jagmaster 96-98 came in black, white, CAR, SBL, and 3TS. all came with tort pickguards true 24" scale. same neck and parts that went on japan jags and mustangs.
2. scumbag jagmaster 2002-2004 came in scumbag silver sparkle / black pickguard, CAR and 3ts. these had strat scale 25.5 necks
3. Jagmaster II. came in black / white pickguard and 3TS with tort pickguard. they come with a conversion neck 24" scale.
